Betty Jo Redwine

Betty Jo Redwine, age 74, passed away Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point.
Mrs. Redwine was born Dec. 4, 1936, to the late Johnnie C. Thompson and Giffie Lou Little in Tishomingo County. Mrs. Redwine was a former employee of the B&W Credit Union where she was the Assistant Manager. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and was very active in the church activities.

Mae White

Mae White, 87, passed away, Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Cleveland Personal Care, Cleveland.
She was born September 23, 1924 in Millport, Lamar County to the late Gerzie Mae Miller and Clarence Valcus Billingsley Mrs. White was a West Point School System Bus Driver & School Lunch for 18 years. She was of the Baptist Faith.
Graveside funeral services will be Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Payton Myers officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Garden West Point, Mississippi. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.

James A. Clardy

James A. Clardy, 82, passed away, January 24, 2011, at his home near West Point.
James A. Clardy was born February 2, 1928, in Choctaw County, Mississippi, to the late Katie Lou Allen and Lonnie L. Clardy. Mr. Clardy was a Welder at Babcock & Wilcox Company in West Point for 31 years. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Mission and the West Point Masonic Lodge #40 F & AM.
Funeral services will be January 26, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jim Sallee

Lady Raiders fall at Starkville

On Friday night, the Oak Hill Academy Lady Raiders finished off Manchester Academy for the second time this season to complete a perfect 6-0 record in district play this season. Starting on Saturday, the girls began a string of non-district games they are hoping will get them ready for the upcoming district tournament at Winston Academy.
The first of these non-league games resulted in a 55-45 loss to the Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers. Starkville has accounted for two of Oak Hill’s seven losses this season.

West Point girls travel to New Hope

Last Friday night, the West Point Lady Green Wave (14-3; 1-1) basketball team hit their first real snag of the 2010-2011 season.
After winning 13 games in a row, the girls took a tough loss to the Lady Chargers of Oxford High School in the team’s second district game of the season.
Tonight, the Lady Wave will try to get things back on track in another important district game, on the road, against the Lady Trojans of New Hope High School.

Trojans welcome Green Wave in Tuesday district match-up

The West Point Green Wave boys hoops team (9-8; 2-0) has to feel good going into the final four district games of the season.
After falling in three consecutive games, with the defense giving up a ton of points, the West Point squad shocked the Oxford Chargers on Friday night with a dominating win.
Tonight, the Green Wave will try to improve on a 2-0 district record, when they travel to New Hope to take on the Trojans, who are hovering right around the .500 mark themselves.

Volunteers take down Raiders 63-44

The Oak Hill Academy Raiders (9-13; 3-3) finished up the district play on Friday night with a hard-fought performance against Manchester that resulted in an unfortunate loss for the Raiders. On Saturday, Oak Hill’s boys returned to the court against Starkville, falling again in the non-district game, 63-44.
The Raiders have guaranteed themselves the No. 2 seed at the district tournament, which will be at Winston. With the Starkville game and three home matches this week, the boys should have plenty of live-action under their belts before the tourney.

Cora White Strickland died Friday, January 21, 2011 at her home following a lengthy illness. She
was born May 25, 1922 to Fannie Powell White and Abe White in Pheba, Mississippi. She was a lifetime member of
Pheba Baptist Church and an active member of her community as long as her health permitted.
Services will be Sunday, January 23 at 2:30 p.m. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point, Mississippi with Rev. B.F. Lee and Rev. Terry Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow at the Pheba Cemetery. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.

Gresta H. Stafford, 81, passed away, January 21, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. Mrs. Gresta was born August 4, 1929, in Marietta, Mississippi to the late Earline Hester and Vinny Hopper.
Mrs. Gresta was a Registered Nurse, retiring after 30 years with the Mississippi State Board of Health where she served as a District Supervisor. She was a member of Siloam Baptist Church. Mrs. Gresta married William Edwin Stafford May
8, 1952, and he predeceased her on December 27, 1997.

Point.. Anne G. Millsaps was born March 18, 1933 in Aberdeen, Mississippi to the late Ruth Wilson and Finis Young Owens. Mrs. Millsaps was a Bookkeeper Southern Inn Motel & Manager for Kentucky Fried Chicken in West Point for
