Tuesday night was the first round of the district tournament for the West Point Lady Green Wave basketball team, and that meant one thing. The winner would advance to the championship game, and the loser would go home for good.
Facing the Saltillo Tigers for the third time this season, the Lady Wave had few problems with the Lady Tigers, running up an early lead, and eventually taking the game 68-55.

Central Holmes blocked the Hebron Christian Lady Eagles’ outside game very well on Tuesday night, but they could not control Tori Nichols, who took passes from her teammates and put them into the goal at will to lead her team to a 57-43 win over the Lady Trojans.
Nichols would eventually shoot for 45 points against the Central Holmes defense, that was completely ineffective under the goal.
“They (Central Holmes) guarded the perimeter out wide, and we got some good passes to Tori, and she did a good job of finishing,” said Hebron head coach Greg Watkins.

Coming into the Central State tournament on Tuesday night, the Hebron Christian Eagles needed a good start to secure a spot at the State Tournament in Benton next week.
They got that start against the delta boys from Sharkey-Issaquena Academy. They defeated the Confederates 62-46.
Carlton Clay, who came into the game with a slightly injured thumb, proved he was ready to go, as he scored 33 points on the night. That combined with a good outside game led to the Hebron win.

The West Point basketball program did not end the district portion of its season the way they had hoped, getting swept by Oxford, on the road.
The good news is that the slate is wiped clean, as all of the district rivals come to West Point this week for the 2011 district tournament.
“Everybody’s record right now is zero and zero,” said West Point boys head coach Brad Cox. “The season has started over.”
The boys finished the season at No. 2 in the district, so they will start off tonight, against New Hope, at 8:30.
