There isn’t any quit in the West Point Green Wave boys basketball team. That being said, the Oxford Chargers are not going to give any either.
Both teams knew this going into Friday night’s district championship game at West Point High School. The first time they played, West Point won by nine. The second time, it was Oxford on top at the end by 19 points.
On Friday night, it was anybody’s game through three quarters. In the fourth, however, the Chargers broke away for 24 points, leaving West Point in the dust in a 71-61 final.

Two weeks ago, Laquintis Robertson threw up a last-second shot against the New Hope Trojans, in overtime. Everyone on West Point’s side thought for sure Robertson drew a foul on the missed shot, which would have allowed the senior a chance to tie the game with free throws.
He didn’t get the foul call, and the Green Wave fell by two.
On Tuesday night, West Point found themselves in the exact situation. Tied 50-50 with New Hope, in overtime, Robertson went to the air for a last-second would be winning shot, and the New Hope defenders were all over him.

Central Holmes blocked the Hebron Christian Lady Eagles’ outside game very well on Tuesday night, but they could not control Tori Nichols, who took passes from her teammates and put them into the goal at will to lead her team to a 57-43 win over the Lady Trojans.
Nichols would eventually shoot for 45 points against the Central Holmes defense, that was completely ineffective under the goal.
“They (Central Holmes) guarded the perimeter out wide, and we got some good passes to Tori, and she did a good job of finishing,” said Hebron head coach Greg Watkins.

Coming into the Central State tournament on Tuesday night, the Hebron Christian Eagles needed a good start to secure a spot at the State Tournament in Benton next week.
They got that start against the delta boys from Sharkey-Issaquena Academy. They defeated the Confederates 62-46.
Carlton Clay, who came into the game with a slightly injured thumb, proved he was ready to go, as he scored 33 points on the night. That combined with a good outside game led to the Hebron win.
