Dog Chase Judgment Rendered to Penny Pinchers

Judgement involving a 2006 dog chasing incident at Penny Pinchers of West Point was given to Penny Pinchers April 26 after the Mississippi Court of Appeals found the dog was not a threat to customers at the store.

Supreme Court To Hear Exploitation Case

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The Mississippi Supreme Court has scheduled arguments for May 11 in an appeal from Vanessa Decker, who is seeking to overturn her 2008 conviction for exploiting her own mother.
Last September, the state Court of Appeals upheld Decker's four-year suspended sentence and four years' probation. The Supreme Court later agreed to hear the appeal.
Decker was convicted in Clay County of felony exploitation of a vulnerable adult for taking $4,120 from her mother's bank account between November 2005 and April 2007.

Aria Lou Jenkins Ray, age 79, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at Hospice in His Hands of Madden, Miss.
Aria Lou Jenkins Ray was born Aug. 4, 1931, in Choctaw County, Miss. She was a member of Salem Independent Methodist Church near Ackerman, Miss.
Funeral services are today, Friday, May 6, 2011, at 11 a.m. from Salem Independent Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Salem Independent Methodist Church Cemetery.
Visitation is 10 a.m. until service time.

Barbara Gene Smith, age 61, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at Darlington Oaks Hospice.
Barbara Gene Smith was born July 7, 1949, to Emmanuel Crump and Annie Mae Crump and was a native of Aberdeen, Miss. She was a Bail Bondsman.
Funeral services are Saturday, May 7, 2011, at 1 p.m. from Third Mt. Olive M.B. Church, with the Rev. Al Lathan officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
Visitation is today, from 3 – 6 p.m. at Carter's Mortuary Services Chapel.

Navistar Defense of West Point got another huge delivery order Thursday from the United States Marine Corps Systems Command, which is helping workers there maintain there jobs and is boosting the economy of West Point.
Navistar received a $183 million delivery order for 250 International® MaxxPro® Dash ambulances with DXM™ independent suspension, which is being included in Navistar’s existing indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract for Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles. This order is Navistar’s ninth major MRAP variant.

Pittman expressed his pleasure at the appointment of Burnell McDonald as new Superintendent of the West Point School District.

Coon Tattoo Hosts Disaster Relief Benefit

Coon Tattoo and Body Piercing of West Point is pitching in and helping out with disaster relief to families affected by last week's tornado by giving tattoos for a donation and offering music, food and fun for a great cause.
Coon Tattoo's disaster relief benefit is being held Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at their location on Main Street. Anyone wishing to give to families through Coon Tattoos can get five tattoo designs for $20 each. People can choose from a cross, an Indian head, which represents Smithville schools, a candle, a memorial ribbon or a tornado with an X through it.

Highway 50 Crash Leaves Two With Moderate Injuries

59-year-old Walter Quinn of West Point is in stable condition after his vehicle collided with another vehicle around noon Tuesday on Highway 50 West in Clay County.
Quinn was traveling east bound on Highway 50 in a 2004 red Chevrolet Trailblazer when his vehicle crashed into a 2005 silver Nissan Altima driven by 36-year-old Pamela Rushing of North Carolina, who was driving west bound.
Quinn and Rushing were taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, and officials say both have moderate injuries.
