Roady V. Hudgins

Roady V. Hudgins, age 73, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 9, 1938, in Webb, Miss., to the late Ruby Lee Hendon and Vernon L. Hudgins. She was self employed in housekeeping and of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services are Saturday, April 9, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tom Harris and Mr. Vernon Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation is today, from 5-8 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home.

Donald Wheeler Mulkey

Donald Wheeler Mulkey, age 71, passed away April 6, 2011, at Darlington Oaks Hospice in Verona, Miss.
Mr. Mulkey was born Dec. 1, 1939, in Acworth, Ga., to the late Ollie Mae Pope and Benjamin Wheeler Mulkey. He was a retired fitter from B&W. He loved to grow a garden and keep a beautiful yard, and was a former Sunday School teacher at Siloam Baptist Church where he was a member.

Shirley Faye Eggerson

Shirley Faye Eggerson, age 57, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.
Funeral services are Friday, April 8, 2011, at 1 p.m. from Fountain Head M.B. Church, with the Rev. Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Sykes Cemetery.
Visitation is today, from 3 – 6 p.m. at Carter's Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter's Mortuary Services is in charge of arrangements.

Eagles slam district rival Calhoun 15-3

Will Corbin Rogers surrendered three runs on three hits to the first five Calhoun batters he faced on Tuesday night. Two Cougars grounded out for RBIs after a run-scoring double, but that damage would be the last for Calhoun on the night. Hebron climbed back into the ball game, and the Eagles eventually won 15-3.

Defense, pitching slump in West Point loss to Oxford

Errors and walks doomed the West Point Green Wave baseball team on Tuesday night. The club traveled to Oxford to take on the Chargers for the first time of three games in 2011’s regular season.
Coming off a split with New Hope, the Green Wave were hoping to get off to a good start against Oxford, but things went bad early, as 14 walks and eight errors contributed to an 11-2 loss on the night.
“The difference in the game was walks and errors,” said West Point head coach Buddy Wyers.

Raiders fall on road to Winston

The Oak Hill Academy Raiders (6-11; 0-7) experienced another setback in district play this week, falling to Winston Academy on Tuesday night, by a score of 10-2.
Oak Hill escaped Tuesday’s game with a .471 team batting average, but defense and pitching have been the keys to success all season.
Oak hill has two district games remaining, a doubleheader with Winston tonight at home.
In Tuesday night’s game, the score was tied 1-1 going into the fourth inning, behind starter Cole Fowler. A five-run inning put Winston up 6-1.

Elizabeth Ann Kelley of West Point passed away Monday April 4, 2011, at NMMC-Tupelo at the age of 64.
She was born on May 7, 1946, in Choctaw County to the late Eolise Dennis and Herman Lovelace. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Maben.

29-year-old Steven McBrayer, who is on probation for aggravated assault, requested to have his $45,667.13 restitution fine reduced Tuesday in Clay County Circuit Court due to his inability to make the high monthly payments.

Darwin Scarbrough Hunt, “MeMe”, age 80, passed away April 2, 2011 at the Oktibbeha County Medical Center in Starkville.
Darwin Scarbrough Hunt was a self employed hair dresser, enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and knitting. She was a former member of the Mississippi Hairdressers Association and Cosmetologist Association. “MeMe” had a way of drawing young people into her life like a foster grandmother and they became her grandchildren also.
