Jeffrey Lloyd Brown

Jeffrey Lloyd Brown, age 52, passed away, Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at his home in Pheba.
Jeffrey Lloyd Brown was born Jan. 16, 1959, in Columbus, to Peggy Richardson Brown and Duward Brown. He was the General Manager of Print Pros. Jeffrey Lloyd Brown was a member of Pheba Baptist Church.
Jeffrey Lloyd Brown married Suzanne Stafford Brown on May 27, 1995, in West Point.

Eagles win easily, top Winston 56-26

In what head coach Tri Nason described as a complete opposite performance from Monday’s season opening victory, the Eagles moved to 2-0 with a commanding 56-26 victory over Winston.

‘I was really happy that they came out and scored early the way they did,” Nason said. “I think the more we play and get used to what we do, it will just prepare us better for down the road.”

Raiders fall at the buzzer, 68-66

MERIDIAN - With seconds remaining on the clock, and Oak Hill with a one point lead, Lamar hit a 22-footer at the buzzer to steal the win right out of the Raiders hands, 68-66 in the season opener on the road.

“They broke our hearts there at the end,” head coach Brian Middleton said. “Some things you have to learn.”

With five seconds remaining, Oak Hill had the lead 66-65. Lamar called a timeout to regroup.

“We had it well defended,” Middleton said. “We just didn’t get the stop when we needed it.”

West Point tops Houston, 57-36 - Woody gets first win as girls head coach

West Point looked in sync for three out of four quarters Tuesday night.

Apart from the forth quarter where several starters sat out and the game already in hand, the Green Wave girls basketball notched their first win of the season, 57-36.

“We did a better job of executing tonight,” first year head coach Murray Woody said. “Our guards did a good job of getting others the ball and opening up some opportunities for them. We still have a little work to do as far as breaking presses and traps, but overall, we looked better than we did Saturday.”

Paige Dendy Lamkin, with 73 percent of the vote, is the new Clay County Tax Assessor. All three supervisors up for re-election (District 3 RB Davis, D4 Sheldon Deanes and D5 Floyd McKee) are winning easily.

The personhood amendment has been defeated by voters of Miss, but Voter ID looks like it's on its way to passing.

UPDATED: Phil Bryant (R) is the new governor of Mississippi after defeating Democrat Johnny DuPree.
Tate Reeves has won the race to be the next LT. Governor.

WP JROTC wins in Ocean Springs

Walk into the JROTC building on West Point High School’s campus and you’ll find several trophies collected over the years. Now they can add a few more after bringing home first and fourth place in Ocean Springs last weekend.

It’s the third such competition for MSgt. Edwin Hurst and his team this year. A few weeks ago in Terry, they had two first place finishes and one second. Hurst emphasized the hard that’s put into it every week.

2011 Conerly Trophy nominees announced

The nominees for the 2011 Conerly Trophy were announced today by the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. Below are the nominees from each of the 4-yard college football programs in the state.

Alcorn State : Terrence Lewis, Jr. WR- Fort Meyers, FL Starting punt returner and wide receiver who garnered 23 catches, 388 yards, and 5 touchdowns this season, thus far.

Belhaven: Justin Gaines, Jr., Running back - Montrose, MS, - leads the team with 923 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Eagles win in season opener, 65-36 over Grace

It didn’t matter who was on the floor for Hebron Monday night, the result probably would have been the same.

A 45-point second half performance by the Eagles (1-0) catapulted them to a 65-36 season-opening victory over Grace Christian in front of their home fans.

Despite getting into early foul trouble with two starters, the Eagles finally got into a rhythm after the half.

Floyd Perry, age 57, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Funeral services are Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at 1 p.m. from Union Star M.B. Church, with the Rev. Billie Joe Clay officiating. Burial will follow in Union Star M.B. Church Cemetery.
Visitation is today, from 2 – 6 p.m. at Carter's Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter's Mortuary Services is in charge of arrangements.
