Bettye Watkins
Bettye Watkins, age 56, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at her home.
Funeral services are today, Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at 11 a.m. from Second Baptist Church of Houston, Miss., with Pastor Danny Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Houston City Cemetery.
Carter's Mortuary Services is in charge of arrangements.

The West Point School District has its new leader.
Following an extensive search for the next superintendent, the West Point School District's Board of Trustees has named Burnell McDonald, who has served as principal at South Side Elementary for the past six years, as the man for the job.

Thomas Lynn Davis, 55, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, in Okolona as a result of the tornado that swept through the area.

Families in the Montpelier area are still in a state of disbelief from Wednesday’s early morning tornado that touched down in the area, causing major damage to dozens of homes there.

Lucinda Williams
Lucinda Williams, age 103, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011, at her home in the Tibbee Community.
Funeral services are Thursday, April 28, 2011, at 2 p.m. from the J.F. Carter Memorial Chapel in Carter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Therman Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in the Tibbee Cemetery.
Visitation is Wednesday, April 27, 2011, from 4 – 6 p.m. at the J.F. Carter Memorial Chapel.
Carter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lofton Honored with Bridal Shower
Joni Lofton, Bride-Elect of Brad Pridmore, was given a miscellaneous bridal shower March 29, at the home of Betty Sue Davis. The flowers were white tulips. Guests enjoyed cake, punch and an array of other refreshments. Special guest were Debbie Lofton, mother of the bride, grandmother, Virginia Orman and sisters Jessica Lewis and Jennifer Price. Hostesses were Betty Sue Davis, Kimberly Todd, Lily Todd, Carolyn Golson, Mary Beth Golson and Lacy Pumphrey.

Ronald and Christy Travis of West Point, Miss., are proud to announce the arrival of their daughter, Brittney Jean Travis, born Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at 8 a.m. at North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point. She was 7 pounds, 5 ounces and 18 ½ inches long.
Maternal grandparents are Milton R. and Nora Benson of Cedar Bluff, Miss., and the late Verley Jean Benson.
Paternal grandparents are William and Angela Parker of Maiden, N.C.
Paternal great-grandparents are Sam and Evelyn Stewart of Maiden, N.C.
Chandler Turns 96
George Chandler will celebrate his 96th birthday Saturday, April 23, at Johnson Creek M.B. Church Hebron, Walkers Gin Road. Hostesses for the joyous occasion are his nieces, Ella J. Evans and Rosie Lee Roberson.
Ivy Turns 80
Louise Ivy was born April 21, 1931, and celebrates her 80th birthday today. Family and friends gave her a birthday party last Saturday, at the Holiday Inn Banquet Facility in Columbus. Host and hostess' for the joyous ocassion were her children, Margarette, Jesse, Sarah, Lillian and Antoniette.
