Legendary piano graces Clay County

A Steinway & Sons piano that belonged to legendary pianist Vladimir Horowitz has been touring the country, and on Tuesday evening, the piano was featured in West Point for a reception hosted by the Mississippi State University College of Education and Department of Music.

Raiders hit the road for Spring Game today

Coming off a 6-6 season and their first playoff appearance since 2009, the Oak Hill Raiders have used their spring practices as a way to continue the success that head coach Daniel Merchant brought to the program in 2012.

Noon Tunes is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

The West Point Clay County Arts Council recently hosted Noon Tunes at the Bryan Public Library. The talented musicians tickled the ivories with Music from the Movies. The pianists performing were Patti Clay, Justin Estes and Hannah Garbutt. Garbutt entertained the crowd by playing supercalifragilisticexpialidocious UPSIDE DOWN!! Pittman’s scheme an insult to the taxpayers

On Tuesday night, some members of the West Point Board of Selectmen crossed that fine line between utter incompetence and gross absurdity.
We’ve seen this board pull some in the past, but Tuesday night’s motion by Ward 5 Selectmen Jasper Pittman, which called for the city to retain an attorney who would be tasked with looking for improprieties in the May 7 election is not only absurd but in this editor’s opinion is an insult to the taxpayers of the community.

Pittman requests outside law firm to review election

Five days after the West Point Municipal Election Commission certified votes in all races, Ward 5 Selectman Jasper Pittman made a request for the city to hire an outside law firm to review the 2013 Primary Election in West Point.

City adopts 2014 budget

No opposition was heard Tuesday from the public regarding West Point’s five separate budgets, which were adopted for the 2013-2014 fiscal year.

Absentee voting in Ward 3 runoff continues

May 15, 2013

Jimmy Clark and Charles Collins will go head-to-head in a runoff for the city’s Ward 3 post on May 21.
The city has announced that absentee voting for that election begins today.
City Hall will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., regular business hours, from today until Friday, May 17.
City Hall will also be open on Saturday, May 18 at 8 a.m. until noon. That is final day for absentee voting.
Clark, Collins and Ken Poole squared off last Tuesday for Ward 3, and neither Clark nor Collins received 50 percent plus one vote.
Polls will open on May 21 at 7 a.m.

Joey Bernard Bell age 44, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013, at his home.
Funeral services are today, Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at 11 a.m. from St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Leroy Bragg officiating. Burial will follow in West Point Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was Tuesday, May 14, 2013, from 3 – 6 p.m. at Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter’s Mortuary Services is in charge of arrangements.
