Glenn Edward Smith age 65, passed away Friday, March 15, 2013, at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.
Visitation was Monday, March 18, 2013, from 1 – 2:30 p.m. at St. Marks United Methodist Church on Grants Ferry Rd. in Brandon. with a 2:30 p.m. Memorial Service to follow the visitation at the church.

Last week, the city board of selectmen and other officials pledged support to repair and beautify the Sam Wilhite Transportation museum on Depot Drive. All agreed the structure had been neglected since it was relegated to “appointment only” hours in 2010. Above, the building is already seeing a drastically improved look after the city trimmed the bushes surrounding the museum. DAR discusses historical mound

The Horseshoe Robertson Chapter of the NSDAR met Thursday at the First Christian Church. The ladies have brought up the need lately for the clearing and restoration of the Native American mounds, South of town on Highway 45 Alt. The original marker on the Highway which shows the site to be on the National Registry of Historic Places, was placed there under the direction of the wife of Presbyterian minister and missionary J.P. Unger. She herself was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Gerald N. Moore

Gerald N. Moore age 79, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Dugan Memorial Home, in West Point.
He was born September 27, 1934, in Valley Station, Ky., to the late Lillian Vaughn and Walter Moore.
He was at Retired U. S. Marine Master Gunnery Sargeant for 24 ½ years. He attended Montpelier Baptist Church. After retirement he worked in civil service for the U. S. Navy. A Veteran of U. S. Marines having served during Korea and Vietnam. Gerald N. Moore married Mary Powell Moore October 10, 1958, in Buford-Parris Island, S.C.

Oak Hill’s diamond bunch hosts tourney, gets past Lamar and Kirk to go 8-0

Oak Hill Academy’s baseball team is off to one of its best starts ever, improving to 8-0 on the season this past Friday, as the Raiders hosted a tournament that featured the squad in two games. In the first game, OHA defeated Kirk Academy 7-4. In the second match, the Raiders nearly repeated that score when they beat Lamar 7-5.

John Michael “Foots” Vance age 66, passed away Friday, March 15, 2013, at his home, in Pheba.
He was born December 30, 1946, in Houston, to Anna Lloyd Fant Morgan and Lt. Col John Gurney Vance.
