Joey Bernard Bell age 44, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013, at his home.
Funeral services are today, Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at 11 a.m. from St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Leroy Bragg officiating. Burial will follow in West Point Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was Tuesday, May 14, 2013, from 3 – 6 p.m. at Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter’s Mortuary Services is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Jane Lyons

May 14, 2013

Mary Jane Lyons age 56, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle in Columbus.
Funeral services are Thursday, May 16, 2013, at noon, from St. Paul Beasley C.M.E. Church with the Rev. Willie J. Mays Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in Lower Prairie Creek M.B. Church Cemetery.
Visitation is today, Wednesday, May 15, 2013, from 3 – 6 p.m. at Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter’s Mortuary Services is in charge of arrangements.

Nations: Bring back “Home Run Derby” to television

An early Monday morning on the couch led me to flip through the cable box over to ESPN’s Classic channel, seeing that there was not anything currently on besides info-commercials. When I finally flipped over, I was delighted to see the grainy, black and white re-run of the 1960 television show, “Home Run Derby”. In the second episode of the lone syndicated season, the Chicago Cub hall of famer Ernie Banks fell to the legendary New York Yankee Mickey Mantle 5-3.

Garbutt, Estes return to Noon Tunes with Mary Marlin

The West Point/Clay County Arts Council will present Noon Tunes at the Bryan Public Library.
Patti Clay, Hannah Garbutt, Mary Marlin and Justin Estes will entertain on the grand piano with music from the movies. Everyone is encouraged to bring a lunch and enjoy this free event in the Esther Pippin meeting room. Drinks and desserts will be provided. For more information call 494-5678.
