New Coach, Familiar Face

Roger Burton will tell you that he bleeds green-and-white and there is no one doubting that answer.

After two years away from West Point High School, Burton returned to the Green Wave football program, hoping to continue the success he experienced during his earlier three-year stint between 2008 and 2011. Burton is a familiar name, a familiar face and a coach that many of the West Point players and coaching staff have known prior to this season.

West Point arts coming and going

Everyone driving through West Point on Hwy. 45 Alt., will be sure to notice that this is the home of the Howlin’ Wolf Blues Festival and the Prairie Arts Festival. Soon new large aluminum adaptations of the poster art from both festivals will be added to the Welcome to West Point signs on the North and South end of at the city limits. The signs will attract attention as people are coming into and leaving West Point. The new four by eight ft. signs will let people who are visiting our state on the Blues Trail know this is the birthplace of Blues Legend, Chester Arthur Burnett.

"No shortcuts, no excuses!" That's the motto for the Oak Hill Raiders this season following a 6-6 overall record in 2012 and a playoff berth, the first since 2009.

Hebron Christian building bonds at camp

People tend to get to know each other better when they have to stay within close proximity to one another.

That's exactly what Hebron Christian's head football coach David Foster is hoping will happen during his three-day football camp being held on the campus of the school in Pheba.

Growing pains come with their lumps.
The Oak Hill softball team and first year head coach Nathan Ellis may have hoped for a better start to the 2013 campaign as the Lady Raiders dropped their first three games. The Lady Raiders are a young ball club that will be working on improving week in and week out.

Tim Brinkley Appreciation Month

July 26, 2013

Mt. Hermon M.B. Church designated the month of July as Pastor Tim Brinkley Appreciation Month. The Wise Ones Senior Ministry recently hosted a luncheon in recognition of his six years of strong leadership. Area Pastors joined joined together for the luncheon and were unable to attend the Sunday service. Also in attendance were surprise guests Mayor Robbie Robinson, former Police Chief Bill Ladd, Assistant Chief Gary Turner, present and former police officers. A number of them shared fond remembrances of working with Brinkley and offered support for his ministry and community minded mission.
