The West Point Touchdown Club recently wrapped up their annual “30 guns in 30 days” raffle in November. Winners were drawn every day throughout the month from prizes provided by Gary’s Pawn Shop.
“I would like to thank everyone for their support this year,” club president Kenny Fowler said. “As always, we had a good turnout this year and I hope to continue its success in the future.”

Maggie Plunk Daniels
Maggie Plunk Daniels, age 102, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at Dugan Memorial Home.
Maggie Bell Plunk Daniels was born Jan. 22, 1909, in McNairy County, Tenn., to the late Mary Viola Whitney and William Bell Plunk. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She was married to James Otis Daniels Dec. 4, 1929, in Booneville, and he preceded her in death Feb. 2, 1996.

With less than six seconds left to play and West Point down by two, a last ditch three point effort was no good. Louisville got the ball back, but the Green Wave were called for an intentional which sent the Wildcats to the line on their way to the win, 56-52.
It was the third straight loss for the Green Wave.
Louisville is traditionally known for their rebounding and transition game, West Point head coach Brad Cox said his team held them in check.
Another solid defensive performance by Oak Hill led the way for a victory as the Lady Raiders tacked on their ninth of the season, 42-27.
“We made a couple of adjustments in practice (Friday) that we tried and for the most part they did a good job with them,” head coach Stan Hughey said. “It was one of our better games defensively. Offensively, we have a ways to go. We’re not shooting the ball very well as a team.”
Tori Ellis finished with a team-high 25 points with 11 rebounds while Anna Ready finished with points. Codi Williams contributed with nine rebounds.

WINONA- Another 20-plus point performance Thursday night by Hebron Christian’s Tori Nichols, helped the Lady Eagles secure their first district victory, 44-37 over Winona.
It also extended their winning streak to a season-best four games.
Head coach William Cotton said this type of momentum will surely help them heading into December as they get set to close out the first half of the year.
GRENADA – A few first half mistakes by Oak Hill Academy didn’t really play factor in Thursday night’s victory over Kirk.
Instead, it was 30-point second half performance by the Raiders that earned a 52-38 win.
With a 13-8 advantage for Oak Hill after the opening quarter, the game remained close until Kirk hit a three pointer at the buzzer to cut the deficit to three heading into the half 22-19.
STARKVILLE – The West Point girls basketball team had their three-game winning streak snapped Friday night, 59-45. In their three losses this season, two have come at the hands of the Lady Yellowjackets. First year head coach Murray Woody said the difference was rebounding.
“They made some mistakes, we made some mistakes, but we didn’t rebound the basketball and got beat on the offensive glass,” he said. “Other than that I thought our effort was good, our hustle was good, and we closed the gap some. We just got beat on the boards.”

STARKVILLE - West Point's boys and girls basketball teams were handed losses for the second time this season by the Yellowjackets.
The girls lost 59-45, snapping a three game winning streak while the Wave lost their second in a row, 82-45.

Elizabeth Lawshe Miller
Elizabeth Lawshe Miller, age 89, passed away Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. Elizabeth Lawshe Miller was born March 12, 1922, in Water Valley, to the late Robert Burnie and Nina Edgar Lawshe. After graduating from Water Valley High School and Mississippi State College for Women, she taught home economics at Hickory Flat High School and later served as Home Demonstration Agent in Clay County for the Mississippi Extension Service.

Zy'Derrion Benard Williams
Zy'Derrion Benard Williams, two week old infant son of Troyal Benard Williams Jr., and Latasha Renae Williams, passed away Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point.
Graveside services are Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at 4 p.m. from New Hope M.B. Church Cemetery in Artesia.
Visitation is today, from 2 – 5 p.m. at Carter's Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter's Mortuary Services are in charge of arrangements.
