Glen Allen Pate Sr., age 83 of Pheba, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, at his residence in Pheba.
Funeral Services are Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, at 11 a.m. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with burial to follow in Pine Bluff Cemetery near Mantee.
Visitation is today, Friday, Nov, 14, 2014, from 5 - 8 p.m. at Calvert Funeral Home. Complete arrangements will be announced later by Calvert Funeral Home

Finas Mathews Sr., age 80, passed away Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, in West Point.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, from Union Star M.B. Church, with Rev. Eric Ratliff officiating. Burial will follow in Union Star M.B. Church Cemetery.
Visitation is from 3 – 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, at Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel.

Johnny Littlefield

Johnny Wayne Littlefield, 61, of West Point passed away Wednesday November 12, 2014 at NMMC-West Point. He was born August 2, 1953 in Philadelphia, MS. He was retired Captain from the MS National Guard and he was with the West Point Fire Dept for 38 years where he served as Fire Chief since 2001.
Memorial Service will be Friday November 14, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Butler and Dr. James Towery officiating. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014, at Lake Grove M.B. Church in Prairie, with Rev. Dr. Darrick Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove McCondy M.B. Church Cemetery in Prairie.

Mary Lee Marble Everson, age 93. passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, in West Point.

Road to Starkville begins

The West Point Green Wave is well-known for its football prowess and multiple successes, including seven state titles – the most recent coming in 2010. The Germantown Mavericks, for many, are just finding their niche in the Mississippi high school football landscape after forming as a consolidated high school in August 2011 in Madison County.
In the opening round of the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class-5A playoffs, an old power squares off against a new power.

City accepts sidewalk bids for Safe Routes

West Point is another step closer to a new set of sidewalks for Central School and Fifth Street Junior High School. The sidewalks will be funded by a $563,000 grant from Safe Routes to School (SRTS).
The West Point Board of Selectmen accepted a $415,951 bid from Simmons Erosion Control, of Lake, to install new sidewalks leading the city’s junior high schools during a recessed meeting Thursday at City Hall.
The national SRTS program began in 1997 as part of a campaign to reduce deaths and injuries among children walking and bicycling to school.

Endowment named in honor of Dill; funds to benefit WP residents

TUPELO — A $30,000 charitable gift to the Health Care Foundation of North Mississippi from the recent Ladies Professional Golf Association Handa Cup at Old Waverly is helping to establish an endowed fund to assist North Mississippi Medical Center cancer patients in the West Point region.

Choral Society set to perform in West Point

The West Point Clay County Arts Council will host the Columbus Choral Society in concert at 2 p.m. Sunday in the newly opened Louise Campbell Center for the Arts. A reception will follow the performance. Both events are free and open to the public.
Arts Council Secretary Kathy Dyess said the group visited West Point in the fall for the last two years, having performed in various churches.
