Recent raffle winners

The “raffle a day” drawing that started last week by the West Point Touchdown Club continued through the weekend.
On Thursday, David Powell’s name was drawn as the day’s winner of the new rifle.
Jack Holliman took the gun on Friday, and Saturday’s drawing brought Larry Williams the new rifle.

Oak Hill boys avoid overtime in 58-54 win over Calhoun Academy

The Oak Hill Academy Raider boys hoops teams had a good night on Thursday, completing a junior varsity and varsity sweep of Calhoun Academy. The varsity team got over the fourth quarter hump they have struggled to crest so far this year, defeating Calhoun 58-54.
On Saturday, however, the Raiders were unable to overcome the boys team of Marshall Academy, falling 67-34.
“They had a pretty good team,” said Oak Hill head coach Brian Middleton, of the Calhoun bunch. “We came out of there with a win.”

Clay scores 42 points in Hebron’s rout of Vikings

Carlton Clay has been nothing short of spectacular on the court since returning from the Thanksgiving break.
On Thursday night, he and the Eagles returned to their home court to take on Central Academy, and Clay put up 42 points against the Vikings, his second 40-plus point game of the week. He had previously scored 40 against Calhoun.
“He’s something special,” said Eagle head coach Greg Watkins. “When I get him to slow down and be patient, he’s hard to stop.”

Lady Raiders beat Calhoun, Marshall

Defense was the name of the game for the Oak Hill Academy Lady Raiders (7-5) on Thursday night. The Lady Raiders finished a decisive 71-19 victory over the Calhoun Academy girls. On Saturday, the girls finished off their first two-game winning streak of the regular season with a 55-34 win over Marshall.
“We played the best game of the year so far,” said Oak Hill head coach Stan Hughey of Saturday night’s win. “We beat a really good Marshall team. We put our whole game together.”

Lady Eagles get win over Central Academy

The Hebron Christian Lady Eagles were not affected in the least by the short Thanksgiving break last week. They returned on Tuesday, taking down Calhoun Academy, and they hit the home court on Thursday, clobbering Central Academy 64-22.
Cathryn Moore led Lady Eagles on the night with 16 points, nailing three three-point shots. Those three were half of the total threes hit by Hebron on the night.
They also helped aid the Lady Eagles to a 22-2 first quarter lead.

Green Wave wins seventh state title

Make it seven state championships for the West Point Green Wave.
West Point made its second consecutive and ninth overall trip to the state title game on Saturday night, and the Green Wave simply dominated the Panthers of Brookhaven High School to take home the golden football in repeat fashion.
West Point defeated the Panthers 21-3 in a smashmouth style that capped off a tremendous playoff run.

Harris may be man to beat against Brookhaven

Brookhaven quarterback Duwone Harris took matters into his own hands last Friday night, as he and the Panthers defeated then undefeated West Jones to win the South 5A championship game.
Harris accounted for 363 yards of offense between his scrambles and perhaps his most effective throwing game of the season. The swift senior will likely be Brookhaven’s top weapon in Saturday night’s state championship match against the West Point Green Wave.

Eagles welcome Vikings to Hebron

The Hebron Christian Eagles have given Starkville Christian a pair of losses so far this season.
Coming off the Thanksgiving break on Monday, Hebron traveled to Starkville and a 59-32 win.
Tonight, the Eagles will be back at home, taking on the Central Academy Vikings.
The Eagles have been led so far this season by senior Carlton Clay, who scored 26 points in the win on Monday night.
Tonight’s match against Central will start after the varsity girls game, which will begin at 6 p.m.

Undefeated Hebron to host Central

The Hebron Christian Lady Eagles have played nine games so far in the early portion of the 2010-2011 regular season, and so far, no one has been able to beat them.
On Monday night, the girls returned to the court for the first time since Thanksgiving, traveling to Starkville to take on Starkville Christian for the second time this season.
The Lady Eagles opened the season against that opponent with a decisive win, and last night, they replicated that with a 65-20 victory.
Tonight, the Lady Eagles look to take down the Lady Vikings of Central Academy.

Oak Hill girls to face Calhoun in attempt to continue win streak

The Oak Hill Academy Lady Raiders will be looking to pick up where they left off when they finished before the Thanksgiving break last week when they face Calhoun on the road tonight.
On Tuesday, the Lady Raiders capped off the first part of the season with a 54-28 win over Marshall.
Tonight’s game will begin at 6 p.m. following the junior varsity girls and boys games.
