Eagles finish first half of season with strong district record

The Hebron Christian Eagles boys hoops team is tough. With their only district loss of the season coming to Immanuel, the Eagles have built a strong 8-3 record going into the second half of the season.
The Eagles said going into the season that they would have an offense built around seniors Carlton Clay and Chad Smith.
Clay and Smith have not disappointed anyone so far this season, but there is more to this team than those two guys.

Green Wave make ‘Rivals’ top 100 list

The West Point Green Wave football program certainly distinguished itself in 2010.
After beating Mainland High School, one of the top teams in the state of Florida, the Green Wave went on to win another district title, the North State title and of course their second consecutive state championship.
Those efforts were rewarded this week, when the 2010 list of top football teams in the nation was released. West Point ranked No. 80 in the country.

Green Wave players bring gifts to needy family

The West Point Green Wave football team dedicated their 2010 state championship title to the West Point community when they won the trophy three weeks ago. West Point head coach Chris Chambless said that was largely due to how much the community had given the program during such a poor economy.
On Tuesday, members of that Green Wave championship team had a chance to give back to the community, by giving a local family some much-needed gifts for Christmas through the Adopt a Family program.

West Point title apparel now on sale

West Point fans are still taking in the state title win from three weeks ago, and now they have a chance to wear the 2010 championship proudly. The West Point Touchdown Club has announced its 2010 championship apparel is in
Children’s short sleeve t-shirts are $10, and the long sleeves are $15.
Adult short sleeve shirts are $12, and adult long sleeves are $15. Green hoodies are also being sold for $20.
“We’re doing them in green right now,” Fowler said. “We’re going to be doing some grey shirts next month,”

Raiders beat Carroll by four in team’s second district win

Make it two district wins for the Oak Hill Academy Raiders hoops team. Friday night’s 69-65 battle with Carroll marked the first division victory on the court for the Raiders, as Winston forfeited two weeks ago.
Oak Hill was coming off a pair of losses, including a district defeat to Manchester last week. The boys played a very intense Friday night match, holding off the Rebels through multiple rallies.
“We really wanted it tonight,” said Oak Hill head coach Brian Middleton. “I’m extremely proud.”

Oak Hill girls crush Carroll in 68-22 district win

It mattered not who the Oak Hill Academy Lady Raiders (12-5; 3-0) put in Friday night’s district game against Carroll Academy. It was going to work.
Whether it was Paige Dawkins’ 10-point first quarter, Tori Ellis’ run in the second and third or the girls coming off the bench in the fourth, there was not stopping Oak Hill, which won the game 68-22.
“We have the ability to ware people down,” said Oak Hill head coach Stan Hughey, whose team has won eight straight. “I’m really proud of that bunch. They gave us a really good effort.”

Ewings’ 29 points gets West Point win over Saltillo

Things might have started out slow for the West Point Lady Green Wave basketball team on Friday night, but thanks to senior Kelsei Ewings, West Point was able to overcome any early adversity to win their first district match against Saltillo 60-55.
Ewings would eventually end up with a season-high 29 points on the night.
Offensively, though, West Point got off to a bit of a slow start, scoring just seven points in the first quarter of play. They finished the quarter down 11-7.

Dora, White take championship credentials to North-South game

Two weeks ago, the West Point Green Wave football team was celebrating their second consecutive state championship, after defeating Brookhaven 20-3.
A week after that, the team sent two representatives to the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star game, along with head coach Chris Chambless, who served as the team’s defensive coordinator.
Tomorrow, West Point will have further all-star representation on the football field, as seniors Vontarrius Dora and Jaquille White head to Ocean Springs to play in the North-South game.

Lady Wave head to Saltillo tonight

The West Point Lady Green Wave hoops team has been doing well as of late, sealing three wins in a row, leading up to district play.
That first district game is set to take place tonight, as the Lady Wave prepare to face Saltillo on the road.
Last Week, the girls hit the court for the first time against Noxubee County. Noxubee stayed in the game for all four quarters, but West Point prevailed in the end. The same was the case for last Friday night’s home game against Aberdeen.

Lady Eagles look to keep undefeated district record

The Hebron Christian Lady Eagles have been really good to start the 2010-2011 season. The only problem they have had lately is that they have played back-to-back games against two of the toughest opponents they might face this season.
The first of those contestants was the always dangerous Leake Academy girls. They were the first team to defeat Hebron this season, and they did that last Saturday.
The second defeat for the Lady Eagles came against a cross county competitor in Oak Hill Academy.
