West Point out for revenge against New Hope tonight

The West Point Green Wave (10-9; 3-1) basketball team will be back on the home court again tonight.
A week ago, the Green Wave traveled to New Hope, to face off against the district rival Trojans. West Point barely fell in overtime to New Hope, giving the Wave its first district loss of the season.
Tonight, they will be looking to make it two in a row, and a 4-1 district record when the Trojans come in for a rematch.
In last week’s game, the Green Wave led several times throughout the match, but they could not hold on.

Oak Hill junior high teams win district

Editor’s Note: The Daily Times Leader would like to thank coaches Stan Hughey and Brian Middleton for providing stats for the junior high teams throughout the year. We would also like to thank Kristen Stevens and Dana Smith for contributing pictures of these teams during the season.

For the second year in a row, the Oak Hill Academy boys (18-7; 5-1) and the Lady Raiders (21-7; 6-0) junior high basketball teams won the district.

West Point to welcome Saltillo in district showdown

With just a week left to go in the regular season, every game is huge for the West Point Green Wave basketball team. Tonight, they will welcome in another district rival, taking on the Tigers of Saltillo, in a battle for first place.
“It’s a district game,” West Point Brad Cox said. “Right now, we’re in a three-way tie for first place.”

Green Wave girls to do battle with Saltillo

On December 17, the West Point Lady Green Wave played the Lady Tigers of Saltillo for the first time, defeating them for their first district win of the season.
Over a month has gone by, and the two teams are set to match up against one anther again tonight, this time in West Point.
With three teams battling for first place in the district, meaning a top seed at the upcoming district tournament, every district game is vital.
“It’s a huge game, a district game,” said head coach Jemmye Ann Helms. “We need to win that game.”

West Point to give nod to nine seniors

The West Point Green Wave basketball program will do battle with a district rival tonight, at home, against Saltillo. What should already be an emotionally charged game will be even more special, as five boys players and four girls players will be recognized during a pre-game senior night celebration.
The boys will be honoring Laquintis Robertson, Romeo Williams, Jamar Wicks, Jaquille White and Willie Edwards. The girls will be giving a nod to Kelsei Ewings, Chelsey Walls, Alexandria Morgan and Santonya Cantrell.

Lady Wave rebounds with win at New Hope

The West Point Lady Green Wave (15-3; 2-1) are still fighting for that top spot atop the district after falling to the Oxford Lady Chargers last Friday night.
The Lady Wave began their rebound from that tough loss at home with a road win over the Lady Trojans of New Hope High School on Tuesday night.
West Point had a battle on its hands, but the girls managed to outlast New Hope in the 66-61 victory.
In the first period, the girls, led by Kelsei Ewings in scoring, jumped out to a slim 16-12 lead over the Lady Trojans.

West Point haunted by missed free throws at New Hope

The West Point Green Wave (9-9; 2-1) basketball team was riding high after defeating the Oxford Chargers last Friday night at home. That district win made the team 2-0 at the time in league play.
On Tuesday night, however, the Green Wave had to travel to face the Trojans of New Hope. West Point forced an overtime quarter, but it was New Hope that eventually pulled out the 69-68 win over the Green Wave.
The Green Wave had a nine-point advantage at the half, but they allowed two dozen points to New Hope in the third period.

Patriots roll past Raiders 51-29 Oak Hill loss

The Oak Hill Academy Raiders (10-13; 3-3) have been playing a tough stretch of late. Wrapping up district play last Friday against Manchester, the boys started a series that includes four games in this week.
After falling to Starkville on the road on Saturday, the Raiders returned to the court on Monday night to take on the Hebron Christian Eagles. In that non-district match, the Raiders tipped in the winning shot in the final second of the game for one-point win.

Hollivay leads Heritage girls to 40-38 OT win over Oak Hill Tuesday night

A couple of weeks ago, the Oak Hill Academy Lady Raiders traveled to Heritage Academy and held the 6-foot-3, and heavily recruited, Rachel Hollivay to just 10 points. In the first two periods of Tuesday night’s rematch at Oak Hill, it looked like it was going to be another one of those nights for Hollivay.
The Lady Patriot came to life, however, in the second half of the game. It took all of regulation and one overtime period, but Heritage eventually outlasted the Lady Raiders 40-38.

Down 14, Oak Hill rallies past Hebron girls 49-32

Monday night was a battle between two district winners. Some of the best girls in single-A ball took to the court against some of the best in AAA hoops, and both teams were from right here in Clay County.
The Hebron Christian Lady Eagles (22-3; 10-0) and the Oak Hill Academy Lady Raiders (19-6; 6-0) both wrapped up their respective districts this weekend, with the two teams going undefeated in league play.
