It has become an annual occurrence for the West Point junior high football teams and their fellow conference members as they met up once again on the football field for a junior high spring jamboree.
After a month of hard and competitive practices, the Junior Green Wave hit the gridiron on a cold and windy Tuesday evening in Starkville to put their talents on display against other teams. And even though the time of year is not traditionally a time for football, the players, coaches, and fans seemed more than excited to catch some pigskin action.
It is spring time! It’s time for everyone to start sticking their heads outside and enjoying the bright sun and great weather with some kind of fun activity. Whether it is watching a baseball game or taking in a round of golf or even just taking a step outside, spring is the best time to do any of these activities.
February 27th
Sign ups for Baseball, Softball and T-ball are going on at West Point Parks and Recreation. The deadline to get a player registered is February 28. Sign up location is the Recreation Building (by the skate park and old fairgrounds) where forms are available. Cost is $40.00. Submitted Photo
Albert Lee’s exercise class at the West Point Karate School has been a hit, and folks can still join up for the class if interested.
Coming up at the end of April, the class will take a trip to the Mississippi River for a weekend dinner cruise. The “biggest loser” in the class between now and that time will get a free dinner cruise that weekend.

February 26th
John Wesley Williamson was selected as the local winner of the Wendy’s Heisman award for Oak Hill Academy. He was also a state finalist. There were only 20 state finalists, 10 girls and 10 boys. He recently attended the Wendy’s Heisman Awards luncheon in Jackson where he received a medal and trophy. The guest speaker was former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove. John Wesley is the son of Wes and Michelle Williamson. He plans to attend Mississippi State University in the fall and major in business law. Submitted Photo

After six Saturdays of basketball games and many practices, the West End Baptist Church concluded their Upward Basketball season with a banquet honoring the hard work and dedication of the players, coaches, and program organizers, Monday, February 26.
The banquet, held on the campus of Mary Holmes College, was full of excited children and great fellowship amongst everyone in the gymnasium. Following a great meal, former Mississippi State University Women’s Basketball head coach Sharon Fanning Otis took to the podium to deliver her words of wisdom.
February 25th
It was a rematch of the AA North State Tournament semi-final as the Oak Hill Lady Raiders met up with Prairie View Academy again this past Saturday. In the previous meeting, the Lady Raiders used a second half rally to overcome a 12-point deficit to defeat the Lady Spartans 55-50.
After making the first round of the playoffs, the Hebron Christian Eagles will be raising their expectations in the 2013 baseball campaign.
“Yeah, expectations are to make the playoffs,” said assistant coach Cass Tapely about the expectation for the season, “we want to make a deeper run this year.”
With a three senior looking to start, Hebron will also rely on underclassmen to fill in the other six spots in field. Yet the underclassmen will not lack experience as many of them picked up valuable experience in the past seasons.
