It has all come down to Brookhaven and West Point. The Green Wave (13-1) trounced over the Ridgeland Titans last Friday night to secure their spot in the 5A state championship game this Saturday.
The Panthers (9-4) likewise rolled over then undefeated West Jones on Friday, and they will represent the South in the game.

Earlier this season, over 300 of West Point’s faithful answered the call and traveled 13 hours to Daytona Beach, Fla. to watch the Green Wave beat Mainland High School 14-0.
This week, West Point fans are being called on again to make another journey. This trip isn’t nearly 13 hours and this game is the most important one of the season.
On Saturday night, the West Point Green Wave football team will take on Brookhaven for the 5A state championship.

At this point in the football season, it matters not who you’re playing or where you play. Competition is going to be tough.
The Ridgeland Titans (13-0) are coming to West Point to take on the 12-1 Green Wave in the North Half title game tonight for a reason. They are just plain good at what they do.
The Titans come in sporting an average of over 300 offensive yards a game, most of those come via the ground game.
Tuesday night’s championship game between the Steelers and the Bulldogs was a tough fought match on both ends. Sherman Berry’s Steerlers were able to get up three touchdowns on the Bulldogs early on. A late touchdown by the Bulldogs was not enough to complete a rally, as the Steelers walked away with the title.

There is probably nothing a senior football player wants more than to finish his career as a player with a state title. In 2009, the West Point Green Wave seniors got to do that, claiming the 5A state championship.
While still one very long game away from having a chance to do it, the 2010 seniors will hit their home field tonight with a chance to play for the state title next Saturday night in Jackson.

The Oak Hill Academy Lady Raiders basketball team bounced back on Tuesday, after a Monday night home loss to Starkville, and they were able to take one from the Marshall Academy Lady Patriots 47-45 in overtime.
After taking a 20-11 lead into half time, the Lady Raiders let the lead slip away in the second half, but thanks to a 20 point second half performance by Tori Ellis, Oak Hill was able to keep the game at least tied at the end of regulation.

As soon as Friday night’s quarterfinal victory over Oxford was complete. West Point head coach Chris Chambless had one message for his football team.
“We’ve got one more game to get to where we want to go, and that game is at our house, in front of the best fans in the state,” Chambless said in the postgame huddle.
Upon hearing those words, the Green Wave erupted in cheers, knowing their road to play for a second straight state championship has just one more stop.
And more importantly, that road goes straight through West Point.

Things got ugly early for the Oak Hill Academy Lady Raiders on Monday night. Facing the Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers, Oak Hill had trouble getting the ball to the net in the first three quarters, so much an 18-point fourth could not help them overcome the early deficit.
The Lady Raiders just had one of those nights. They put the shots up, but few fell in.
Just four points were scored by Oak Hill in the first quarter. All the while, Starkville was scoring at will, amassing 15 points in the opening period.
