It was a great week to be an MSU Bulldog sports fan. After a midweek come from behind victory over arch-rival and #18 Ole Miss in the annual Governor’s Cup baseball game at Trustmark Park in Jackson, in front of a record crowd (8,240) by a score of 5-1, the Bulldogs continued their outstanding play over the weekend by sweeping SEC newcomer Texas A&M at College Station.

In Oak Hill’s final game of the season, the Raiders needed a win to at least close out the year on a high note.

Chris Gibson has proven the theory that hard work pays off in the long run. Yet it has not taken too long for Gibson to catch the eye of West Point head coach Buddy Wyers this 2013 season. Chris, a freshman, has come through the ranks from junior high to junior varsity and now varsity where he has found a role at second base.

Fifty-four wins, no losses.

That is the current record and two-year long winning streak that the Oak Hill Junior Raiders are holding which spans over three seasons. The streak began in 2010. Along the way, Oak Hill Junior High claimed four back-to-back district championships, and to celebrate the success, head coach Brian Middleton and his Oak Hill Junior Raiders are releasing commemorative t-shirts for their excellent achievements on the basketball court.

Taylor Park was the site for the final game of the three game series between the West Point Green Wave and the Saltillo Tigers.

It was do or die for head coach Marion Bratton and his Oak Hill Raiders Tuesday evening against district 2-AA foe Canton Academy. Following two difficult losses to Winston Academy, the Raiders were holding onto their postseason life.

The Oak Hill tennis team was back on the court Tuesday afternoon in West Point. In a heated team match against rival Heritage Academy, the Lady Raiders and Raiders stepped out of district play for a cross-classification tilt.

Monday afternoon in West Point, the Oak Hill tennis team played host to the Lady Mavericks and Mavericks of Manchester Academy in district 2-AA action.

For the 17th ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs (26-9 overall, 5-7 in SEC play), this weekend had many bright moments from which to build great momentum as the season progresses.
First, the Dawgs took their first series in the last five weekends, winning the weekend series 2-1 over the Florida Gators (15-18 overall, 5-7 in SEC), after having lost the last four series 2-1 to Central Arkansas, and nationally ranked SEC powers LSU, Kentucky, and Arkansas.
