The West Point Green Wave girls basketball team lost three seniors last season, but they will return in 2010-2011 with a good bit of depth and experience. They will get their first taste of live action ball this Saturday at the West Oktibbeha Jamboree.
“We have a lot of the same players returning,” said West Point girls basketball coach Jessye Anne Helms. “We did lose some post players.”
Helms says that those players will be replaced with a mixture of returning players and a pair of transfers who will start as well.

The Green Wave (8-1; 5-0) are coming off a big 49-0 win over Saltillo, and they are still undefeated in district play. The Tigers were West Point’s latest victims during the Green Wave senior night on Friday.

When it comes to money, baseball playoffs rife with diversity

October 25, 2010

Baseball fans love stories about the underdog. They also love to hate the New York Yankees, that is of course, non-Yankee fans love to hate the Yankees.
The Yankees are an easy target because they are in the playoff mix nearly every season, missing only one post-season since 1995. A perception of greed and cut throat business surrounds the New York organization, which spends more money than any of the other 29 teams in baseball. Some have referred to them as the “evil empire.”
