The West Point Soccer Club’s U10 boys team won its division at the Tupelo March Madness Tournament last weekend by outscoring opponents 23-6 over the span of four games.
However, after the tournament, the boys on the team talked about the one goal that put them through to the championship game.
“The Sunday morning game against Oxford was a real test,” Coach Thomas Easterling said. “It was back and forth the whole time, and we had to beat or tie them to advance to the championship.”
The total, combined runs scored by the Starkville Lady Jackets and West Point Lady Wave matched the cold, wintery temperatures.
One team was warm with the feeling of victory. While the other was left cold by a loss in this highly contested Golden Triangle Area rivalry.
The Lady Jackets rallied 10 runs in the final three innings to surpass the Lady Wave, 18-15, in a MHSAA non-district fast-pitch softball game Tuesday at West Point High School.
West Point pushed across one run in the final three innings.
PHEBA — Behind a positive performance on the mound, Hebron Christian Eagles (2-0; 1-0 District 3-A) grabbed a 9-5 decision over the Calhoun Cougars in a MAIS District 3-A baseball game at Hebron Christian School.
The Eagles outhit the Cougars (11-1) and kept the base path busy, scoring at least one run during five of the seven innings of play. Hebron’s pitching staff held Calhoun to only one hit in seven innings.
