Oak Hill splits with Hartfield

LADY RAIDERS 55, HARTFIELD LADY HAWKS 24

Sophomore Sarah Dill was the Lady Raider's leading scorer for the third consecutive game in a row, and Oak Hill (4-2) clinched a non-district win over the Hartfield Lady Hawks in a MAIS basketball game Saturday on the campus of Oak Hill Academy in West Point.
Rebekah Crair and Chloe Peavey led the Lady Hawks with their eight points each during the losing effort.

Hebron gets first district wins over Calhoun

PHEBA — Rebekah Falkner led the Lady Eagles with 17 points and Hebron Christian (2-0) picked up a win over the Calhoun Lady Cougars, 65-35, in a MAIS basketball game Tuesday on the campus of Hebron Christian School.
Holly Hudson tallied 14 points, Alaina Hill scored 12 points and Subrina Oswalt knocked down 10 points in Hebron’s fifth consecutive win since the second preseason game against Washington School at the Winona Christian Preseason Tournament.
Regan Hubbard led Calhoun with 14 points.

Oak Hill sweeps Carroll

Sophomore Sarah Dill scored a game-high 17 points and the Oak Hill Lady Raiders (3-2) defeated Carroll Academy in a MAIS non-district basketball game Monday on the campus of Oak Hill Academy in West Point.
Maegan Ellis added 13 points, and Tanner Grubbs scored 11 points off the bench in the second-quarter alone during the Lady Raiders win following a 60-57 heartbreaking non-district loss to rival Starkville Academy on Thursday.

The West Point Green Wave allowed 33 unanswered points after the first quarter and could not spark a comeback in the final quarter of action, falling in the opening round of the MHSAA Class-5A playoffs to the Pearl Pirates, 33-20, Friday at Ray Rogers Stadium in Pearl.
Pearl (11-2; 6-1 District 2-5A) secured a spot in the second-round of the Class-5A playoffs and will face the undefeated Oxford Chargers Friday in Oxford.

OHA Raiders beat Heritage 53-42

Height, athleticism and awareness are keys in the game of basketball.
Matthew Gwathney and Drake Riley provided those three attributes in the frontcourt for Oak Hill against the Heritage Patriots.
Gwathney scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds, Riley secured 14 rebounds and six points and the Oak Hill Raiders protected home court with a 53-42 win over Heritage Tuesday night on the campus of Oak Hill Academy in West Point.

Dill, Lady Raiders escape Heritage

Sarah Dill was looking for a coming out game in her sophomore season for the Oak Hill Lady Raiders.
During her junior high career, Dill was an offensive juggernaut, scoring an average of 20 points or more in the seventh- to ninth-grade span. Last season, Dill was a strong contributor off the bench for Oak Hill in its 30-win season.

West Point Classic

BOYS: West Point bounces Noxubee, 65-30

A.J. Jones scored 17 points and West Point cruised to a 65-30 win over non-district rival Noxubee County in its opening game of the 2013 season Saturday in West Point.
Odarius Chandler scored 12 points off the bench, and starting forward Demarius Calvert scored nine points during the Green Wave's first win.
Chris Hairston led Noxubee with 12 points in its losing effort.

On Senior night, Aeris Williams broke the 2,000-yard rushing mark for the season and West Point jumped out to 34-point lead by halftime to win its final regular season game against District 1-5A foe Lewisburg, 62-34, Thursday night at Hamblin Stadium in West Point.
Williams rushed for 100 yards on and caged three passes for 121 receiving yards, scoring three total touchdowns during the Green Wave’s fifth consecutive win since falling to the Clarksdale Wildcats (39-34) on Oct. 4 in West Point.

West Point hoops get under way

The West Point Green Wave and Lady Wave basketball teams began their respective regular seasons on the hardwood this weekend with two events at the West Point High School gym.
Tonight, boys' basketball Head Coach Brad Cox and first year girls' basketball Head Coach Dashmond Daniel invite West Point hoop fans to "Meet the Green Wave" at 6 p.m. The event lasts until 8 p.m. and admission price is $2.
