November 2, 2012

The life of a kicker can be a lonely assignment, many times working by yourself to perfect your craft. Sometimes people do not even know your name or that you are a part of the team.

October 31, 2012

Though Oak Hill’s football team begins the MAIS AA playoff Friday, the Oak Hill Raiders and Oak Hill Lady Raiders basketball teams are making the final preparations to start their season next week. The Oak Hill Raiders had a somewhat disappointing finish to last year’s season finishing in the lower half of their district, while the Lady Raiders hope to continue their success from last season when Oak Hill made it into the All-Around State Tournament before losing out to Simpson Academy. Both teams are hoping that they can both be successful and have a winning season ahead of them this year.

Clay suburban carries rising star’s proud family

October 29, 2012

It was a long ride home for the thousands of Mississippi State fans who believed prior to the 7:30 start of Saturday’s ballgame that the Bulldogs would be 8-0 and ranked in the top five in the nation after beating No. 1 Alabama.
It did not work out that way, but all was not a loss for state fans.

At the junior college level, this area of the state has East Mississippi Community College, which is ranked in the top five in the nation.

Win over Immanuel, losses elsewhere earn Raiders Wild Card spot in 2012 playoffs

October 27, 2012

First thing’s first.
The Oak Hill Academy Raiders (6-5; 2-3) had to defeat Immanuel Christian (3-7; 0-5) on Friday night to even have a shot at a playoff berth.
Mark that one off the checklist. The Raiders slid by Immanuel 20-19 on a cold, windy and slightly rainy Friday night.
Next order of business was to keep an eye on the scoreboard from around the state because a wild card berth would have to come at the hands of Winston Academy and Manchester Academy loses to Leake and Canton respectively.

Tough competition through nine games preps Green Wave for district showdown with Oxford

October 24, 2012

Sometimes a team has to face the very best early on in order to be ready for greater challenges down the road.
This could be said for the 2012 West Point Green Wave (7-2; 5-0) who will face perhaps their toughest challenge on Friday night when the undefeated Oxford Chargers (9-0; 5-0) come into town.
It’s not certain if the Chargers will be the best team West Point has faced this year, but Oxford comes to town a district challenger, with the district on the line.
Neither team has lost a district game to date.

With a win and some help, OHA tries to make 2012 playoffs

October 24, 2012

The Oak Hill Academy Raiders (5-5; 1-3) have had some kind of a turn-around season in 2012.
The Raiders did not win a single game during the 2011 campaign, but under new leadership the team has rebounded for five regular season wins with one to go.
That one game that is left is perhaps the biggest of the season. If the Raiders win against Immanuel on Friday night, Oak Hill will have done its job in terms of setting itself up for a playoff appearance.

Green Wave QB in on five first half scores to lead West Point past Center Hill 55-7

October 20, 2012

Every game is critical at this point in the season.
Friday night’s district match between the West Point Green Wave (7-2;5-0) and Center Hill was no exception. Playing their fifth straight out of seven consecutive division games to end the season, West Point was looking to improve on a stomping of Saltillo the week before.
The Green Wave did just that, taking care of the Center Hill Mustangs 55-7.

Raiders finishing strong with win over Kirk

October 20, 2012

The Oak Hill Academy Raiders (5-5;1-3) have certainly accomplished some of their major goals during the 2012 season.
Having not won a game since 2010, the Raiders got things off to a great start with two consecutive victories to start the year. One of those wins was a district victory against Winston Academy.
On Friday night, the Raiders played their last non-district game against Kirk Academy out of Grenada. Though Oak Hill had its troubles in the middle of the season, they are proving their resilience once again with a second straight win, a 34-14 notch over Kirk.
