Green Wave overwhelms Canton 38-0

November 10, 2012

West Point started their journey to Jackson against the number four seeded Canton Tigers from Region 2 5-A.
The Tigers put their best effort forward, but that effort was no match for a dominant Green Wave team. West Point led throughout the game after Tez Lane’s first touchdown run from 34 yards out in the first quarter. Following that there was no looking back, as the Wave went on to crush their first round foe with the final score of 38-0.

Raiders gut it out against Kirk

November 10, 2012

It wasn’t pretty, but Brian Middleton’s young Raiders got the win.
In a sloppy defensive Thursday night battle, Oak Hill brushed off their shoulders and surmounted their errors to reach a 2-0 mark to start the new hoops season.
In a low scoring 48-40 victory, Oak Hill was the beneficiary of double digit performances by J.J. Bridges and John Wesley Williamson. Bridges and Williamson scored 15 and 10 points, respectively, while grabbing five rebounds a piece.

Lady Raiders fend off fourth-ranked Kirk Academy

November 10, 2012

Oak Hill solidified themselves as a team to beat this year in the MAIS Class AA after defending their home court against Kirk in a gritty 62-53 win Thursday night. The balanced Lady Raiders overcame foul trouble and an early deficit to knock off a pre-season top five team for the second time in their first four games. Coach Stan Hughey’s squad stuck with their identity of fast paced offense and full court pressure to build a comfortable lead midway through the game, but when the game got tight, Oak Hill adjusted and responded to Kirk’s rally by rebounding exceptionally well.

Pickens excited about first year as Lady Wave coach

November 8, 2012

The Lady Wave are an extremely young squad, returning only one player with playing time experience from last year’s ball club. Though Saturday’s loss in the Green Wave Classic to Kusciusko 33-28. The Lady Wave gave relentless effort and got it within two points in fourth quarter against the Lady Whippets but never could close the gap in the losing effort. The game against Kusciusko could have dampened first year Coach Kendall Pickens’ spirit, but he knows that this season for his girls is a time to grow into better ball players.
