Raiders fall in OT as Leake sweeps Oak Hill

MADDEN -The drought continued for the Oak Hill Raiders Saturday afternoon as they dropped their fourth game in a row, falling to Leake Academy 63-56 in overtime.
Leake outscored the Raiders, who had two players foul out in the extra period 10-3.
AJ Jones led the team in scoring with 28-points and had a chance to snap the skid with eight seconds left in the ball game, only converting on one of two from the line.

Aberdeen edges out West Point, 86-83

ABERDEEN - West Point had four players finish in double figures Saturday, and despite a tough effort the second time around, Aberdeen still came out on top, 86-83.
“We did a lot of things very well,” head coach Brad Cox said.
The Green Wave (8-12, 1-1) were solid at the line, shooting 23-of-28 and had only 14 turnovers which Cox said was remarkable for a high school game considering Aberdeen was pressing on almost every possession.

Oak Hill swept at Leake, West Point falls to Aberdeen

The Oak Hill Raiders have dropped four in a row after their 63-56 overtime loss to Leake on Saturday in District 2AA play. The Lady Raiders were handed their first loss in the district, falling to the Lady Rebels 52-44. The girls dropped to 5-1 in the district.

West Point lost in a heartbreaker to Aberdeen, 86-82 in the final of the aberdeen tournament.

Oak Hill once showed why defense is their bread and butter. They can shoot pretty good too.
Friday night, the Lady Raiders had one of their best defensive performances of the season with a 62-19 win over Canton. The victory moves them to 18-5 on the year, but more importantly 5-0 in MAIS District 2AA.
“I’ve tried to convince this bunch that that’s our identity,” head coach Stan Hughey said. “Our ability to guard people.”
In the two games prior, especially against Marshall, the girls were able to shut down the opponents top offensive weapon.

Green Wave hold off W. Oktibbeha

ABERDEEN - West Point’s recent success has come from a lot of factors, but head coach Brad Cox points to his defense.
The Green Wave picked up their third win in four games Thursday, 85-62 over West Oktibbeha.
“Our defense has been getting better over the last few games,” he said. “Just the effort and intensity has been better and the guys are buying into that. They’re starting to see when you play defense well, we can get things in transition and open some things up.”

Hebron splits with Winona

Hebron continued to move up the district tables on Friday with a 44-23 win over Winona.
The victory, their fourth in a row, moved them to 4-1 in the standings, second to only Kemper.
The Lady Eagles, 15-7, jumped out to a 15-2 lead after the first quarter, really keeping the Stars on their heels offensively.
Winona clamped down in the second quarter, forcing several turnovers with a 3-2 half court trap and scored nine points. They still trailed by double digits at the half, 23-11.

Raiders drop three in a row after tough district loss to Canton

Looking to stay in the hunt for a first place position in the district, Oak Hill needed to defeat Canton, time simply ran out.
AJ Jones drove to the lane with seconds remaining to cut the lead to two, but time ran out before head coach Brian Middleton could call a time-out as Canton Academy held on for a 62-60 win.
It was the third consecutive loss for Oak Hill since their season long seven game winning streak in December.
In a second half that had 12 lead changes, Canton took the lead, 53-51 with less than four minutes left to play and held on for the rough ride.
