Raiders, Lady Raiders sweep Leake Academy in district play

December 17, 2011

They say games are won or lost at the free-throw line. Friday night, in arguably the biggest game of the season to determine early supremacy in the district, Oak Hill proved why they have won the last two district titles. They were clutch.
The Lady Raiders went 10-for-12 at the line in the final three minutes to hold off No.1 ranked Leake Academy 61-57.
The Raiders, looking for their third straight victory for the second time this season, followed with a win of their own, holding down the Rebels 74-68.

Green Wave earn first district victories

December 17, 2011

What better way to get out of a slump than with a district win. After all, come February, those are the only records that matter.
Friday, the West Point girls, who have lost four of the last five ball games, earned a big win at home defeating Saltillo 47-36. The victory pushes them up to 6-6 on the year and a clean 1-0 record in the region.
Meanwhile the boys snapped a two-game slide with a 68-51 win.
The girls got off to slow start, struggling at times to get the offensive rebounds as baskets didn’t come easy for both squads.

The Hebron Christian School Eagles were happy to see a close game go their way, while the Starkville Christian School Cougars fought back, but couldn’t close out.
In boys’ Christian school basketball action prior to the Christmas break, Hebron defeated Starkville Christian 48-46 at the Cougar Cave.
SCS rallied from a 28-18 halftime deficit to take a 42-40 lead on a basket by Ben Jamerson with 4:40 remaining in the game, but the homestanding Cougars were out-scored 8-4 down the stretch and a winning shot attempt by Chris Hortsmeyer fell off the mark.
