Lady Raiders earn fourth straight victory, 61-26 over Benton

CARROLLTON - Oak Hill Academy continued their impressive mid-season run Thursday with a 61-26 victory over Class A Benton in the Carroll Academy Christmas tournament.

The Lady Raiders, 15-4, had three players finish in double digits, led by Tori Ellis who bounced back with 18-points for the game including 16 in the first half alone.

“We played a whole lot better than we did the day before,” head coach Stan Hughey said. “We were really intense on our defense and we shot the ball well.”

Second half surge nets six straight win for Oak Hill

CARROLLTON - A second half onslaught Thursday night helped the Oak Hill Raiders to a 70-37 win over Benton Academy in the Carroll Academy Christmas tournament.

Leading 26-24 at the half, the Raiders 11-6, outscored Benton 44-13 in the second half to lead them to victory.

"We looked a little sloppy in the first half," head coach Brian Middleton said. "We went on a run midway throughout the third quarter and played a lot better defensively."

Lady Eagles win three straight, Eagles fall

STEENS - Six minute quarters could have hurt or helped the Hebron Lady Eagles Wednesday afternoon.
Either way, it didn’t matter as the girls notched their third win in a row with a 36-21 win over Vardaman in the Immanuel Center for Christian Education Holiday tournament.
Due to time constraints, the games were played within an hour time limit.

Raiders, Lady Raiders earn victories at holiday tourney

CARROLLTON - The Oak Hill Academy boys and girls basketball teams continued their winning streaks Wednesday afternoon, pulling out a pair of wins over Desoto in the Carroll Academy Christmas Tournament.
Anna Ready and Shay Atkins led the girls with 14-points apiece in a 50-24 victory, extending their winning streak to three games.
“We came out really sluggish today, we didn’t defend too well at all,” head coach Stan Hughey said. “You could tell we’ve been out for while.”

Hebron earn holiday wins

It wasn't pretty, but Hebron survived a fourth quarter comeback and pulled out a 46-45 win over host Immanuel in their holiday tournament on Tuesday in overtime.

The Lady Eagles had a three point lead with seconds to play in the fourth quarter before head coach William Cotton called a timeout to regroup his players and set up on defense. The Lady Rams last ditch effort from 25-plus feet was nothing but net sending the game into overtime.

Oak Hill, Hebron in action today

December 28, 2011

Hebron Christian Schools returns to the basketball court today at Immanuel. The Lady Eagles battle Vardaman at 2 p.m followed by the Eagles and Cahawba.

Oak Hill returns to the court this morning at Carroll Academy for their holiday tournament. Both the Lady Raider and Raiders take on Desoto starting at 10 a.m and the boys immediately following.

Schools gearing up for magical second half

West Point
The Green Wave closed out the first half the season with a pair losses and a losing record.
At, 5-9, several of those losses came at the hands of some of the most talented teams in the state in including Tupelo twice (once in OT), Kemper County and Starkville twice, then ranked no.1 in the state. They’ve gotten off to an ideal start in the region, earning their first victory over Saltillo.
But head coach Brad Cox knows they haven’t hit their peek yet and still trying to get all the pieces in the right spots.

West Point close out first half with road losses

The West Point Green Wave closed out the first half of the 2011-12 season on a sour note.
Tuesday night’s 50-33 loss at the Ridgeland Holiday tournament to the host Titans, capped off a tough first half for the boys who are currently sitting at 5-9 overall and 1-0 in the district.
Leading 18-17 at the half, West Point struggled offensively early in the third quarter allowing the Titans to get right back in the ball game.

WP Parks and Rec now offers youth basketball for free

In the spirt of the holiday season, the West Point Parks and Recreation Department is doing a little giving of their own by offering the 2012 youth basketball season for free. Yep, at no cost, What a perfect gift.

Parks and Rec director James Crowley made the announcement this week to make sure that everyone will be able to have a little fun on the hardwood. The department already has a free adult league, so it made sense to carry it over into the youth division.

Green Wave fall at Ridgeland tourney

RIDGELAND - The West Point girls and boys basketball teams closed out the first half of the 2011-12 season Tuesday with a pair of losses to Ridgeland.

Wilma Davis and Adrianna Billups finished in double figures, but after another slow start, the girls would eventually fall in another heartbreaker 45-42.

Down 13-3 after the first quarter, West Point responded with a 12-point second half effort and trailed at the half, 19-15.

Davis led the girls with 14-points and Billups finished with 10. Taylor McCrary rounded out the top scorers with nine.
