November 12th
Tori Eliis had a triple double Friday night as Hebron Christian School snapped a three-game losing skid with a 62-50 win over AA West Memphis.
Ellis knocked down 28 points, grabbed 20 rebound and blocked 10 shots in arguably her most complete performance so far this season.
Head coach William Cotton says the girls are coming around and looking like they should, a playoff ball club.
âOur shooting percentage was up tonight, thatâs what we need to have every night,â he said. âBut thereâs still room to improve.â
November 11th
West Point head football coach Chris Chambless got right to point at halftime. The Green Wave led 21-14 at the break over Neshoba Central and Chambless kept it short and sweet.
âThis is the playoffs, you better step it up or youâre going home,â he said. âWhat else do you say?â
The boys heard it loud and clear.
TUPLEO â Arrington Lenoir and Daryl Thomas combined for 49 points Thursday night, but after four periods of play, West Point just didnât have enough in the tank as the Green Wave lost in OT to the Tupelo Golden Wave 82-76 in day two of the Tupelo Tip-Off Classic.
West Point had an eight point lead heading into the fourth quarter, before Tupelo began chipping away, and eventually cutting the deficit 67-65 with less than two minutes to play. Antonio Green sank five points including a pair of free-throws with 10 ticks left to play.
Oak Hill opened up the ball game with back-to-back three pointers by transfer AJ Jones.
Fans knew it was a good sign as the Raiders rolled out 20 points in the first quarter on their way to the first win of the season, 54-42 over Kirk Academy.
Jones finished 4-of-4 from behind the arch in the first quarter as the Raiders scored 14 unanswered points to take control 20-6 after the first intermission. Brian Middleton said he was a little surprised by the fast start.
For a few minutes late in the fourth quarter, Oak Hill girls basketball coach Stan Hughey got a little nervous. He watched as the Lady Raiders, who led 36-24 heading into the final period, allowed Kirk to comeback and send it into overtime.
Five points in the last minute of OT by the Lady Raiders, including the go ahead jumper by Maegen Ellis, gave Oak Hill the victory, 47-45 in their home debut.
November 9th
In what head coach Tri Nason described as a complete opposite performance from Mondayâs season opening victory, the Eagles moved to 2-0 with a commanding 56-26 victory over Winston.
âI was really happy that they came out and scored early the way they did,â Nason said. âI think the more we play and get used to what we do, it will just prepare us better for down the road.â
MERIDIAN - With seconds remaining on the clock, and Oak Hill with a one point lead, Lamar hit a 22-footer at the buzzer to steal the win right out of the Raiders hands, 68-66 in the season opener on the road.
âThey broke our hearts there at the end,â head coach Brian Middleton said. âSome things you have to learn.â
With five seconds remaining, Oak Hill had the lead 66-65. Lamar called a timeout to regroup.
âWe had it well defended,â Middleton said. âWe just didnât get the stop when we needed it.â
November 8th
West Point looked in sync for three out of four quarters Tuesday night.
Apart from the forth quarter where several starters sat out and the game already in hand, the Green Wave girls basketball notched their first win of the season, 57-36.
âWe did a better job of executing tonight,â first year head coach Murray Woody said. âOur guards did a good job of getting others the ball and opening up some opportunities for them. We still have a little work to do as far as breaking presses and traps, but overall, we looked better than we did Saturday.â
Walk into the JROTC building on West Point High Schoolâs campus and youâll find several trophies collected over the years. Now they can add a few more after bringing home first and fourth place in Ocean Springs last weekend.
Itâs the third such competition for MSgt. Edwin Hurst and his team this year. A few weeks ago in Terry, they had two first place finishes and one second. Hurst emphasized the hard thatâs put into it every week.

The nominees for the 2011 Conerly Trophy were announced today by the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. Below are the nominees from each of the 4-yard college football programs in the state.
Alcorn State : Terrence Lewis, Jr. WR- Fort Meyers, FL Starting punt returner and wide receiver who garnered 23 catches, 388 yards, and 5 touchdowns this season, thus far.
Belhaven: Justin Gaines, Jr., Running back - Montrose, MS, - leads the team with 923 yards and 12 touchdowns.
