The extra time Austin Kinard put in to work on his shooting paid off on Monday.
Kinard heated up from the outside and scored 20 points to help the Starkville Academy Volunteers to a 66-48 victory over the Oak Hill Raiders at the SA gymnasium.
"I've been just working in practice every day after school with my shooting and it helped out for me (Monday night)," Kinard said.
Calvin Young led the Vols with 21 points, but Kinard's contribution was an added bonus.
Starkville Academy coach Mark Alexander was proud of what Kinard provided and looks for it to continue.
DEKALB – Kemper County’s eight point run in the last two minutes all but sealed a 62-53 win over West Point Monday night, snapping a two-game winning streak by the Green Wave.
Down by five with a little over six minutes left to play in the contest, Daryl Thomas hit back-to-back threes to pull them within one before Cortez Malone gave them the lead. Malone finished with 17, including 12 in the first half. That was short lived as Kemper went on an eight-point run late in the quarter to grab the win.
