West Point falls at Tupelo on the hardwood

TUPLEO – Arrington Lenoir and Daryl Thomas combined for 49 points Thursday night, but after four periods of play, West Point just didn’t have enough in the tank as the Green Wave lost in OT to the Tupelo Golden Wave 82-76 in day two of the Tupelo Tip-Off Classic.

West Point had an eight point lead heading into the fourth quarter, before Tupelo began chipping away, and eventually cutting the deficit 67-65 with less than two minutes to play. Antonio Green sank five points including a pair of free-throws with 10 ticks left to play.

Raiders get first win of the season, 54-42

Oak Hill opened up the ball game with back-to-back three pointers by transfer AJ Jones.

Fans knew it was a good sign as the Raiders rolled out 20 points in the first quarter on their way to the first win of the season, 54-42 over Kirk Academy.

Jones finished 4-of-4 from behind the arch in the first quarter as the Raiders scored 14 unanswered points to take control 20-6 after the first intermission. Brian Middleton said he was a little surprised by the fast start.

Lady Raiders top Kirk in overtime, 47-45

For a few minutes late in the fourth quarter, Oak Hill girls basketball coach Stan Hughey got a little nervous. He watched as the Lady Raiders, who led 36-24 heading into the final period, allowed Kirk to comeback and send it into overtime.

Five points in the last minute of OT by the Lady Raiders, including the go ahead jumper by Maegen Ellis, gave Oak Hill the victory, 47-45 in their home debut.
