West Point's Kelsey Redus headed to state

October 26, 2011

West Point swimmer Kelsey Redus looks to make a splash this Saturday and bring home a state championship when she hits the pool at the 2011 MHSAA state championships held at the Delta State University Aquatic Center in Cleveland.

Redus qualified for the 50-yard freestyle (28.20) and 100-freestyle (1.04.41) after she finished in the top 12 of the respective heats at the North State championships held two weeks ago in Flowood.

The meet is scheduled to begin at 7:30 am for warm-ups and then 9:15 am for the events to start.

Lady Eagles hit the court this afternoon

The 2011 basketball season officially gets under way this afternoon for area teams.

The Lady Eagles of Hebron Christian School tip-off the new season under first year head coach William Cotton this afternoon when they take on the winner of North Sunflower Academy and Starkville Christian at 3 pm at the Winona Preseason tournament which started Monday.

Should Hebron advance, they would take on Delta Academy, a team they have been become all to familiar with.

A new era at West Point

October 26, 2011

In last year’s first round of the 5A playoffs, West Point was out scored by Indianola-Gentry 20-8 in the overtime period. Their season ended rather quickly after making it to the postseason for the first time a while. That loss still sits on the players minds.

“ A lot of our seniors played a lot of minutes last year,” head coach Brad Cox said. “They weren’t just watching it, they were right in the thick of it.”

It’s a new season, and for several players coming back, it’s their last chance to make the most of their legacy wearing the green and white. Cox agrees.
