With gas prices soaring, Christmas just past and an already bad economic environment, some luxuries are going to have to go.
The West Point Parks and Recreation wants to give every child and parent who wants to participate in youth sports a chance to do so, and this week they are doing that by extending the deadline to pay for youth basketball sign-up.
“We’re extending our basketball deadline date to accommodate people in these tough economic times,” said Parks Director James Crowely on Wednesday.

The Oak Hill Academy Lady Raiders are less than a week out from playing their first district game of 2011. Already with a 3-0 record in district play, the Lady Raiders will be looking to shake off any rust that accumulated during the break, this week, at the Kirk Academy Tournament in Grenada.
“We’re trying to look at this tourney as a way to get back going,” said Oak Hill head coach Stan Hughey on Tuesday.
