In the world of high school football, there is no rest for the weary.
For Oak Hill Academy, that axiom has proven true for two straight weeks to open the season.
On Friday night, Oak Hill, with 18 varsity players, stood toe-to-toe with Class AAA power Pillow for more than two quarters, only to see the Mustangs – with their roster of 55 – eventually pull away in a 31-6 win.
While the roster numbers don’t lie, Oak Hill head coach Leroy Gregg refused to offer those facts as an excuse.
It’s now safe to say that everybody who paid to see Friday night’s showdown between the Green Wave of West Point and the Mainland Buccaneers got their money’s worth.
It didn’t matter if these fans never saw the beach or the beautiful sunrise over the Atlantic. It didn’t matter that the 40 percent chance for rain at Daytona turned into a dismal 100 percent reality as the game kicked off. The West Point fans, and Mainland alike, were treated to some of the best football the Southeast has to offer on Friday nights.

Every player was exhausted, the sun was three hours gone, and the rain was falling hard, but the West Point football team was going to the beach anyway late Friday night.
The reason? It was a reward for one of West Point’s biggest regular season wins in years.
Behind a stout defensive effort and bruising ground game, West Point won its 16th straight game here Friday night with a 14-0 shutout victory over Daytona’s Mainland High.

By the time this article reaches the stands, the West Point Green Wave football team, along with all of their luggage and amenities, will be on the first leg of their day-long trip to Daytona Beach, Fla.
The Wave will hit the beach sometime this evening, leaving them 24 hours to rest before week two’s kickoff with the Mainland High School Buccaneers.
West Point head coach Chris Chambless knew that it was going to be a short and tough week for the Wave, practicing for the upcoming game and preparing for a long ride in the team bus.

Bailey Wofford carries a big burden with the bat being the only senior for the Starkville Academy girls softball team.
Hitting third in the lineup, Wofford is counted upon heavily to drive in runs for the Lady Volunteers.
That mission was accomplished Tuesday afternoon.
Wofford had four hits with three of them triples, drove in four runs and scored three times as Starkville Academy defeated the Hebron Christian School Lady Eagles 9-4 on the home field.

Mississippi State is currently in the center of a college controversy regarding noise makers at football games. Many Bulldog fans have protested the ban of cow bells at State games, a device officials say interferes with too much with the game.
There’s one dedicated family of Bulldog fans in Clay County that won’t mind the NCAA’s ban.

Mamie Allen and Hunter Coleman had put in a solid four innings as pitcher and catcher, respectively, for the Oak Hill Academy Diamond Raiders (9-8; 0-3) on Tuesday afternoon.
Due up back-to-back in the bottom of the fourth, they knew two runs would end the game, and both batters reached base to set up the final two scores in a 12-0 victory over the Diamond Patriots of Heritage Academy.
The Lady Raiders were coming off of a hard 4-2 loss at Manchester on Monday, which saw a 2-0 seventh inning lead slip away.
