The Hebron Christian Lady Eagles went into the Christmas break with a two-game losing streak, which were the only two losses of the season so far for the girls. On Monday, they got a chance to hit the court for some tournament play at Immanuel Christian, hoping to get a win before facing Winston Academy next Tuesday.
Facing the Lady Wolverines of East Webster, the Lady Eagles came out on top 57-35, in spite of a first-half power outage that delayed the contest for over an hour.

The Hebron Christian Eagles spent nearly all four quarters of Monday morningâs game with Tupelo Christian shaking off the rust of the Christmas break, but they finally did so and barely slipped past the opposing Eagles team 54-53.
Tupelo swished a three-point shot at the buzzer, but thanks to a pair of free throw shots sunk by Carlton Clay second earlier, it was unable to do any damage to the Hebron lead.

The Hebron Christian Lady Eagles ran into some tough competition and tough luck down the stretch of the first half of the 2010-2011 regular season. That last week of action, however, is not how the first portion of the season should be remembered.
The Lady Eagles faced arguably the top girls hoops program in the state in Leake Academy, and they turned right back around and played the Oak Hill Academy Lady Raiders, who entered the season at No. 4 in the state, and have been playing up to that ranking as of late.

The Hebron Christian Eagles boys hoops team is tough. With their only district loss of the season coming to Immanuel, the Eagles have built a strong 8-3 record going into the second half of the season.
The Eagles said going into the season that they would have an offense built around seniors Carlton Clay and Chad Smith.
Clay and Smith have not disappointed anyone so far this season, but there is more to this team than those two guys.

The West Point Green Wave football program certainly distinguished itself in 2010.
After beating Mainland High School, one of the top teams in the state of Florida, the Green Wave went on to win another district title, the North State title and of course their second consecutive state championship.
Those efforts were rewarded this week, when the 2010 list of top football teams in the nation was released. West Point ranked No. 80 in the country.

The West Point Green Wave football team dedicated their 2010 state championship title to the West Point community when they won the trophy three weeks ago. West Point head coach Chris Chambless said that was largely due to how much the community had given the program during such a poor economy.
On Tuesday, members of that Green Wave championship team had a chance to give back to the community, by giving a local family some much-needed gifts for Christmas through the Adopt a Family program.

Make it two district wins for the Oak Hill Academy Raiders hoops team. Friday nightâs 69-65 battle with Carroll marked the first division victory on the court for the Raiders, as Winston forfeited two weeks ago.
Oak Hill was coming off a pair of losses, including a district defeat to Manchester last week. The boys played a very intense Friday night match, holding off the Rebels through multiple rallies.
âWe really wanted it tonight,â said Oak Hill head coach Brian Middleton. âIâm extremely proud.â

It mattered not who the Oak Hill Academy Lady Raiders (12-5; 3-0) put in Friday nightâs district game against Carroll Academy. It was going to work.
Whether it was Paige Dawkinsâ 10-point first quarter, Tori Ellisâ run in the second and third or the girls coming off the bench in the fourth, there was not stopping Oak Hill, which won the game 68-22.
âWe have the ability to ware people down,â said Oak Hill head coach Stan Hughey, whose team has won eight straight. âIâm really proud of that bunch. They gave us a really good effort.â

Things might have started out slow for the West Point Lady Green Wave basketball team on Friday night, but thanks to senior Kelsei Ewings, West Point was able to overcome any early adversity to win their first district match against Saltillo 60-55.
Ewings would eventually end up with a season-high 29 points on the night.
Offensively, though, West Point got off to a bit of a slow start, scoring just seven points in the first quarter of play. They finished the quarter down 11-7.
