Bedford Forest Burkeen

Bedford Forest Burkeen, age 81, of Long Beach and formerly of Pheba, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015.
Mr. Burkeen was born to Ernest and Elsie Mae Holyfield Burkeen. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years of service to his country and later received his Master’s Degree from Mississippi State University in Agronomy and Horticulture. He retired from MSU after 10 years as Greenhouse Manager. He enjoyed spending his spare time with his wife rock hunting and gardening.

Milford R. Forrest

Milford R. Forrest, age 81, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. Mr. Milford was born Feb. 2, 1933, in Tangipahoa Parish, La., the son of the late Herman Edward and Clyde C. Strickland Forrest. In the early years, Mr. Milford worked alongside his father as a dairyman. He later worked for Bryan Foods in West Point for 17 years, where he was a sanitation supervisor. He was an United States Air Force Veteran, where he served as a Drill Instructor. He was a member of First Baptist Church in West Point. Mr.

Alvanell ‘Mamanee’ Kennedy Jeter Christopher

Funeral services for Alvanell Kennedy Jeter Christopher (lovingly called “Mamanee” by her family) were Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, a graveside service followed at Greenwood Cemetery.
“Mamanee,” was 96 years old, died at her Broad Street home Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015. She is preceded in death by her parents: James Preston and Emma Lou Kennedy; her husband, Marvin Homer Jeter, Sr.; her sister, Thelma Kennedy; and her son, James Carey Jeter.
She is survived by her son, Marvin Homer Jeter, Jr. and his wife Betty, of Jackson; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Kimberly Marie Kelsey Haughton

Kimberly Marie Kelsey Haughton, age 51, passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, at her residence in West Point. Kim was born November 6, 1963, in West Point, the daughter of Robert William Kelsey, Jr. and Hilda Elliott Magers. Kim worked for many years as a secretary at Bryan Foods, Reliable Security, and as a teller at BancorpSouth. She was a member of First Baptist Church in West Point. She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Elliott, Sr.; paternal grandmother: Emily Jane Kelsey; and paternal grandfather: Robert William Kelsey, Sr.

John Hamilton Stone Jr.

John Hamilton Stone, Jr. 91, died Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at River Place Nursing Center in Amory. He was born November 10, 1923 in Okolona to John Hamilton Stone, Sr. and Ida M. Gregory Stone of Okolona. He was a graduate of Okolona High School. While waiting on his appointment to the US Naval Academy, he attended Mississippi State University and the University of Mississippi. He was a Class of 1947 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis and joined the U.S. Navy upon graduation. He married his sweetheart, Mary Louise Millard of West Point on June 9, 1946.

Leon Carroll Provencher

Leon Carroll Provencher, age 83, of West Point passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, at Dugan Memorial Home.
He was born in Vermont, March 12, 1931, to the late Grace Bennett and Romeo Provencher. He retired from the U.S. Navy where he was a Chief Aviation Store Keeper. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of West Point.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, at Robinson Chapel with Rev. Jeff Shannon officiating. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jimmy Donahoo, Tony Rosetti, Bill MacLean, Tommy Henley, Bucky Kellogg.

Lt. Colonel Henry Jackson Kornegay Jr.

Lt. Colonel Henry Jackson Kornegay Jr., age 95, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at his residence in Anaheim, Calif. Lt. Colonel Kornegay was born Feb. 19, 1919, in West Point, the son of the late Henry Jackson and Harriet McFadden Kornegay, Sr. Lt. Colonel Kornegay graduated from West Point High School in 1927, where he was President of the Senior Class. He attended the University of Mississippi “Ole Miss” from 1938 through the Spring of 1941, where he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He entered his military service Sept.

Mary Woods Shaffer

Mary Woods Shaffer, age 62, of West Point passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus.
She was born in Shaw, Dec. 22, 1952, to Susie Woods Hardy and the late Leepold Woods. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service in April 2013. She was a member of Pilgrim Grove M.B. Church.
Funeral services, were Saturday, Jan 17, 2015, at Mt. Pleasant Church with Rev. Robert Shamblin officiating. Burial followed in Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Rockiell Woods, Braci Askew, Ruben Woods, James Wadlington, Jr., Aaron Woods and Thedford Woods.

Annie Mae Cromwell Barnes age 90, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015.
Funeral services are 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, from Antioch M.B. Church in Maben, with Rev. Erusia Culpepper officiating. Burial will follow in Antioch M.B. Church Cemetery.
Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, 2015, at Antioch M.B. Church, Maben.

Visitation is 3 – 6 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015 at Carter’s Mortuary Service Chapel.
