Billy Martin Shepherd Sr., age 75, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, April 1, 2013.
Born in Monroe County, he was the son of the late Fletcher Brian Shepherd and Lettie Smith Shepherd. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Juanita Lang.
Billy was a longtime member of Englewood Baptist Church and former member of Edgemont Baptist Church. A faithful servant of God, Billy served as Director of Royal Ambassadors of both churches and a group leader for the Awana Club at Englewood. He retired after 35 years with Barcalounger in 2000.
Margaret Russell Templeton, age 86, died March 30, 2013, at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko. Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Welchâ€™s Funeral Home in Starkville, beginning at noon with funeral services at 1pm.
Mrs. Templeton was born on August 1, 1926, in West Point, Miss. She was a graduate of West Point High School. On June 1, 1946, she married Charles Edward (Buddy) Templeton. They made their home in Starkville, where they raised their three boys. Mrs. Templeton worked for Dr. Emmett Black as a dental hygienist and secretary for many years.
Mary Gray Gieger Stubbs, 97 years of age, passed away on March 29, 2013, at Gildaâ€™s Place in Ridgeland, MS.
She was a homemaker, teacher and business book keeper. Mary Gray was a member of First Methodist Church of Starkville, Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Gieger and Lida Critz Gieger, husband Archie Stubbs, son Richard Stubbs and sisters Martha Reynolds and Ann Daigle.
Mr. Earl E. â€śBubâ€ť Thompson, Age 83, of Pheba, Mississippi died at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo March 30, 2013 services are incomplete and will be announced later by Calvert Funeral Home of West Point, Mississippi.
Vaudine Mae Landess, age 100 years and 2 days, passed away, on Thursday, March 28, 2013
at Dugan Memorial Home, in West Point.
She was born March 26, 1913 in Kennedy, Alabama to the late Alice Ashcraft and Willis Sanders. She was a Dietician and head of the West Point School System Cafeteria for 10 years. She was a member of First Christian Church. Mrs. Landess was a top notch Bridge Player and could outplay anyone including her son.
She was preceded her in death by her husband of 49 years, Foster Landess, who died December 28, 1985.Â
Waymond Will â€śBillâ€ť Reid age 87, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Starkville Manor Nursing Home, in Starkville.
Bill Reid was born August 21, 1925, in Pheba, to the late Ventrice Montgomery and Quay Reid.
Mr. Reid worked as a Bundle Boy at Knickerbocker & Big Yank, Manufacturing. He worked as custodian for First Baptist Church for 17 years and then at Sunflower Food Store. Mr. Reid was a member of West End Baptist Church and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. Waymond Will Reid married Allie Mae Hollis January 22, 1955 at Eupora.
Geneva Russell Pearson age 96, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus.
Geneva Russell Pearson was born December 15, 1916, in Detroit, Ala., to the late Mary Jane Holloway and Everett Wakefield. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She married Delbridge Russell September 9, 1934, at Prairie Point, he preceded her in death September 13, 1974. She married Eugene Edwin Pearson August 14, 1982, in West Point and he preceded her in death May 23, 1998.
Gale P. Smith age 69, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Oktibbeha County Hospital Regional Medical Center, in Starkville.
Gale Smith was born June 14, 1943, in Shiloh Valley, Mo., to the late Ethor June Wootten and Gale Morris Burgess. She was a Sales Associate for K-Mart in Yazoo City for 25 years and was a member of Liverpool Baptist Church in Yazoo City. She enjoyed crafts, music and working her rose garden.
James Roy Brooks age 45, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013, in Meridian.
Funeral services are Saturday, March 30, 2013, at 11 a.m. from Northside Christian Church with the Rev. Dwight Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation is today, Friday, March 29, 2013, from 3 â€“ 6 p.m. from Carterâ€™s Mortuary Services Chapel.
