Johnnie James Brown Sr., age 90, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014, in Meridian.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2014, at Pleasant Grove Pool’s M.B. Church with Dr. Willie B. Lairy officiating. Burial will follow in Pool’s Memorial Garden.
Visitation is 3 – 6 p.m. today, Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter’s Mortuary Services is in charge of arrangements.

July 8, 2014

Wayne Gwathney, age 68, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Darlington Oaks Community Hospice in Verona.
Mr. Wayne was born Jan. 27, 1946, in Shelby, the son of the late John Walter and Garvis Christine Robertson Gwathney. He was raised in Louisville. He was the owner and operator of Wayne Construction Company. He was a Baptist. He married Carolyn Trulove Gwathney Dec. 22, 1967, in West Point. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by one sister: Joann Gwathney.

William Roye Carnell Sr.

William Roye Carnell Sr., age 65, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2014, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.
He was born October 16, 1948, in New Albany, to the late David M. Carnell, Sr. and Mildred Irene (Roye) Carnell. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University where he lettered in football and was active in the M Club. He was a business entrepreneur and had numerous successful businesses in the Tupelo area over the years. He attended The Orchard in Tupelo.

Rosie B. Wells-Kincaid, 46, of West Point died Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Starkville Manor in Starkville.
Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, July 7 at Poole’s M.B. Church in West Point.
The Rev. Avis Shelton will officiate.

Addie ‘Granny’ McComic

Addie “Granny” McComic, age 94, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Dugan Memorial Home in West Point. Mrs. Addie was born Oct. 6, 1919, in Dyersburg, Tenn., the daughter of the late Henry and Eunice Pleasant Gibson. She was a seamstress at Knickerbocker Manufacturing. She was a member of Cedar Bluff Baptist Church. She was an avid and accomplished cook. She married Eddie Lee “Bud” McComic on May 23, 1936, and he passed away Dec. 13, 1996.

Sam Cooperwood Sr., 80, of West Point, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014 in Lawton, Okla.
Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. today at Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel. Funeral services will be held11 a.m. Wednesday at Hopewell M.B. Church in Cedar Bluff with the Rev. Carl Perry officiating.

Mildred Conlee Magers

June 26, 2014

Mildred Conlee Magers, 94, died Monday, June 23, 2014, at Sanctuary Hospice House following an extended illness. She was born Oct. 31, 1919, in Prentiss County to Gordon Emmitt Conlee and Gladys Hendrix Conlee. She married Charlie Raymond Magers Dec. 20, 1934, and worked for 33 years at Reed’s Manufacturing retiring as a supervisor. Upon retiring she worked at Harrisburg Baptist Church in the daycare. She was an extraordinary mother who loved cooking and caring for her family. She loved her children, grandchildren and great - grandchildren. Mildred was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church.
