December 13th
Oh, God. I thank you today for the power to turn situations around. Won’t you journey with me…to the fourth chapter of Daniel? I love this chapter for two reasons. It displays the true heart of man and the unconditional love of God. It tells of King Nebuchadnezzar and his journey as he came into the full knowledge of God. He had heard a lot about the God of Daniel, he knew of his power and his wisdom yet he refused to bow down and serve him. Oh mighty King Neb came to know God the hard way.
Christmas is definitely in the air – especially the airways. Christmas movies are on every channel, interrupted by countless commercials showing the perfect Christmas gift. There are movies about a young boy wanting a husband for his mother, Santa promising a young girl a Christmas boyfriend, and a young soldier receiving a Christmas card from a girl he did not know. The titles go on and on – entertaining, perhaps, but lacking in substance. Even the movies that show right winning over wrong make no mention of the real reason for the season.

It started out of Darlene Cox’s small Commerce Street business eight years ago.
Back then, Cox’s Secret Santa program for local kids was a small operation that involved snacks and candy for the children of West Point at Christmas.
Over the years it has evolved into something beyond the nutritionist’s wildest dreams.
“Last year was our best year ever,” Cox said on Wednesday morning. “We gave away 2,500 gifts to needy children in West Point.”
Oak Hill Academy senior John Wesley Williamson, West Point High School senior Alexis Smith and Hebron Christian senior Curtis Smith are honored as the West Point Rotary Club’s Students of the Month on Thursday. Williamson plans to attend Mississippi State to major in Business. He is the president of his class, and he currently owns a small business in West Point. Alexis Smith plans to attend either Ole Miss or Alabama and major in either Physics or Biology with hopes of becoming a Pediatrician.
December 12th
I stumbled across a sure-fire system for improving my mental health, not to mention my outlook on life during these hard times. It doesn’t cost anything and the results are almost instantaneous.
Miraculously, the hard times have evaporated as my thoughts turn to Christmas, family gatherings and the making of new memories unpolluted by general mayhem and contentious politics.
A wrecked Earth lies virtually abandoned in space.
Only one percent of the human race exists on the planet in an attempt to rehabilitate the environment. The other 99 percent have colonized Mars.
Each year, a group is chosen to travel to Earth to work on the rehabilitation project.
"Earthrise", a new film by director Glenn Payne follows the journey of those on their way to Earth, and West Point will be the setting of this Sci-Fi psychological thriller.
Today, students at the West Point Alternative School will find out who took home the top prizes for the school’s holiday poster contest. Eric Morgan of Dominos has donated pizza, and Labaris Conner of Kroger has donated cupcakes as part of the awards for the winners. The posters were judged by WPSD Superintendent Burnell McDonald, Assistant Superintendent Rob Smith, Federal Programs Director Reita Humphries and Daily Times Leader Managing Editor Bryan Davis. December 11th

Every memory of the child who has died must be summoned up with all its feelings and reworked with the new and painful knowledge that your child is gone. This I can tell you after loosing our son was the most painful aspects of grieving. We love the dead differently from how we love the living. As we live with the reality of our loss of a son or daughter, your love must recognize the changed reality and change itself. You will never stop loving your child who has died. Remembering and bringing up feelings and memories is how I accomplished this painful task.
December 8th
I’m not sure if anyone has heard that the sitting Governor of Mississippi, Phil Bryant has had the audacity to put a Nativity Scene on the front lawn of the Governor’s Mansion. Imagine that! A Nativity Scene in Mississippi! A group who calls themselves Mississippi Atheists have gotten in touch with the ACLU to see if they can make Gov. Bryant remove the offensive scene. Really.
Has the world gone completely nuts!? Uh..it’s CHRISTMAS! Duh. CHRISTmas.
