Never forgotten: Teammates, family pull together to remember Wave football player

One by one, 16 senior football players made the slow walk across McAllister Field at West Point High School Friday night, with each player being accompanied by his family for Senior Night festivities.
After the 16th player was introduced just prior to West Point’s season finale, he kissed his mother, turned, and found the rest of his senior teammates. That’s when the entire group gathered together and sprinted to the center of the field to be with the 17th senior, Tyler Wallace.

Paige Dendy Lamkin, with 73 percent of the vote, is the new Clay County Tax Assessor. All three supervisors up for re-election (District 3 RB Davis, D4 Sheldon Deanes and D5 Floyd McKee) are winning easily.

The personhood amendment has been defeated by voters of Miss, but Voter ID looks like it's on its way to passing.

UPDATED: Phil Bryant (R) is the new governor of Mississippi after defeating Democrat Johnny DuPree.
Tate Reeves has won the race to be the next LT. Governor.

Two killed in Highway 50 collision

A three-vehicle crash that occurred just after 8 a.m. on Friday morning claimed two lives, including one West Point man.
David Malone, 63, who was driving a 1997 GMC truck, and Keona Fields, 25, who was driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am, were both killed after a head-on collision that occurred just east of the river bridge.
According the officials with the Miss. Highway Patrol, the accident occurred just east of the Tenn-Tom Waterway bridge, yards away from the Clay County line of the Lowndes County side of the river.

West Point wishes troops well as 223rd departs

Hundreds of American flags waved in the early morning sun, and police sirens blared announcing the departure of several local heroes.
With that, West Point’s 223rd Engineering Battalion, loaded in four charter buses, turned right onto Main Street and began to head toward the city limits, on their way to a brief stop in Texas before making the trip to Afghanistan to do their part in Operation: Enduring Freedom.

Though local chapter is gone, Red Cross service is available

Reassurance that disaster victims in West Point and Clay County will still have the services of the American Red Cross came Monday to the Clay County Board of Supervisors by Pattie Tucker, director of the Northeast Mississippi Red Cross chapter.
Consolidation of the Golden Triangle branches of Red Cross occurred this past summer in an effort to sustain Mississippi’s Red Cross centers, and merging branches isn’t just happening in the Golden Triangle.

County schools begin redistricting process

The Clay County School District started the process of redistricting on Tuesday night, a task the county schhol board faces once every 10 years.

Brinkley Chosen As West Point Chief of Police

After a recommendation by the West Point Public Safety Committee, Tim Brinkley was hired Tuesday night as the chief of police for the West Point Police Department by the West Point Board of Mayor and Selectmen.
Brinkley, a native of Tupelo, who currently serves as the assistant chief of the Law Enforcement Bureau of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, will begin as chief of police on Sept.1, taking the place of interim police chief Bobby Lane.

10:15: With a late surge, Paige Dendy Lamkin looks like she's going to force runoff with Linda Hannah in Tax Assessor race. Eddie Scott is the new sheriff of Clay County, and Amy Berry will be the new Chancery Clerk.

11 of 14 precincts in...Eddie Scott pulling away in sheriff's race, leading Edward Houston by 700 votes. Amy Berry cruising to victory in chancery clerk race, Linda Hannah doing same in Tax Assessor race. District 4 Supervisor Sheldon Deanes has defeated Charles Collins. Justice Court Judge Thomas Hampton and Joe Taggart seem to be on the way to victory.
