Ward talks fitness at Civitan

April 4, 2013

Margaret Shelton presided over the West Point Civitan Luncheon Club during its bi-monthly meeting in the absence of President Alvin Quinn.
After calling the meeting to order and settling all old and new business, she asked Jermain Jackson, who was in charge of the program, to introduce his guest, Joel Ward.
Ward is the owner of Anytime Fitness. He opened the facility in July of ‘09, and is enjoying having his thriving business in West Point.

A public apology is in order

There comes a point in every journalist’s career when he or she does something so hurtful that it warrants a public apology.
I think that it is safe to say that after Wednesday’s edition of the Daily Times Leader, I have reached that point.
In my nine months as Managing Editor of the DTL, I have had some major lapses in judgement, and I have made some mistakes.
Wednesday’s story, “Dead body found along highway” was the worst mistake of my career, by far.
The choice we made on the picture that we used was without taste.

Documents suggest city’s attorney believed Collins was not cooperating in recent lawsuit

West Point Mayor Scott Ross and Ward 3 Selectman Charles Collins are both standing by statements that they made last week after it was reported the city had settled a discrimination lawsuit involving three current and one former West Point police officers.

Yeager to speak on Autism tonight

Dr. Mark Yeager, arguably the state’s leading expert on Autism will be speaking on the subject of Autism and more tonight at First Baptist Church.
Things will get underway at 5:30 p.m., and the program is scheduled to last two hours. This seminar is free and open to the public.

Correction: Yeager to speak Thursday night

In Wednesday's edition of the Daily Times Leader, we reported correctly in the headline that Dr. Mark Yeager would be speaking on Thursday, but there were several times in the article where it said he would be speaking Wednesday evening.
That is not correct.
Dr. Yeager will speak at First Baptist Church on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m.
We apologize for the mistake.

Karl Gibbs is Representative for District 36.
Nearly 2,000 Clay County voters went to the polls on Tuesday to decide whether Gibbs or Eddie Longstreet would take the empty House seat for the next three years.

Ivy’s shooting trial gets underway...again

Tuesday marked the first day of the second trial involving 24-year-old Rashawn Ivy, who is expected to testify this week in defense of an allegation that he shot his ex-girlfriend in the head in 2010.

Renowned Autism expert to speak at FBC Thursday

The number of diagnosed cases of Autism has risen drastically in the past two decades.
Unfortunately, education about the condition has not seen as dramatic an increase. For many, exposure has been limited to documentaries and movies made about individuals who suffer from Autism.

The mother of a female juvenile, both of whom reside in West Point, has taken legal action against the McDonald’s restaurant in West Point, claiming negligence and failure to control employees.

Sinkhole issue being resolved

A large sinkhole located on Northwood Forest Road was discovered late last week and is now being repaired before any injuries occur due to its extent and depth.
