Correction: Runoff date is April 2

March 13, 2013

The date for the District 36 runoff election was incorrectly printed as March 26 in the Wednesday edition of the Daily Times Leader. The mistake was caught after the paper had printed.
We apologize for the error, and a correction will appear in the Thursday print edition of the DTL.

Comcast seals deal with city, pays $76K in delinquent fines

After a lengthy battle to get Comcast Cable and Internet Services to pay delinquent fees owed to the city of West Point, Comcast finally cut a check Monday to the city, bringing their current pole attachment balance to zero.

Runoff projected to be between Gibbs and Longstreet

The numbers are not official, and the tabulations may change, but as of press time on Tuesday night, Karl Gibbs and Eddie Longstreet are projected to face each other in a runoff for the District 36 House seat on Tuesday, April 2.

City Prosecutor May Be Selected Soon

At least four weeks have passed since West Point Municipal Court proceeded with a city prosecutor, but that could change as early as tonight.

Last week during a work session of the West Point Board of Mayor and Selectmen, the board discussed the city prosecutor's position, which was left vacant several weeks ago with the election of Angela Turner-Lairy to the State Senate. During their work session Mayor Scott Ross noted that only two applications for city prosecutor had been submitted to City Hall as of last Thursday.

A Thursday night traffic stop on East Main quickly escalated into a hot pursuit down Eshman Ave. where one man was eventually caught, arrested and charged with multiple offenses.

Alleged attempted suicide incident clarified

March 8, 2013

Eyes grew big in the early part of last week when an area broadcast news agency released a report alleging that a West Point police officer attempted suicide on East Main Street in West Point, but West Point Police Chief Tim Brinkley said almost the entire television report is false.

In Sunday's print version of the Daily Times Leader Brinkley addresses the incident as well as what was reported by the television media earlier this week.

Two injured in head-on collision

Two people were transported Thursday afternoon to the local hospital after sustaining injuries due to a head-on collision, which occurred in the area of Fifth Street Junior High School.
