WPPD to get new cars, officers

The West Point Police Department was the receiver of good news during the West Point Board of Selectmen’s regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday at City Hall. Selectmen authorized the hire of four new WPPD patrol officers, as well as the purchase of three new police patrol vehicles and two unmarked cars for criminal investigators.

Man arrested for local truck stop shooting

Monroe County resident Joseph Ewing, 32, was arrested Monday in connection with a shooting that took place at the SOCO Truck Stop located on Highway 45 Alt. North in West Point.
According to a press release issued by the West Point Police Department, at about 3:35 a.m. Sunday, West Point police officers were dispatched to the SOCO Truck Stop in reference to multiple shots having been fired.

A West Point woman was arrested on charges of animal neglect and resisting arrest Tuesday in West Point.
According to a West Point Police Department incident report, Debora Moore of 507 E. Churchill Road, was taken into custody after officers discovered at least two Pit Bulls restrained improperly without access to food or water. A third Pit Bull was reported dead, allegedly left in a barrel on the property.

Police investigate truck stop shooting

A Monroe County man was arrested Sunday in connection with a shooting in West Point that left one man injured.

West Point Police Department officers were dispatched at about 3:25 a.m. Sunday to the SOCO Truck Stop on Highway 45 Alt. North in West Point in reference to reports of multiple gunshots having been fired. According to a press release issued by the WPPD, as officers were on their way to the scene of the incident, Emergency 911 reported to police that a man was taken to the emergency room after having suffered from a gunshot wound.

NMMC hosts MS Walk kickoff event

March begins Multiple Sclerosis awareness month. For those living with MS, support groups are a lifeline to other individuals who understand the difficulties the disease presents. Family, friends and those who have MS, met Friday at the Education Room of North Mississippi Medical Center to show their support for the upcoming MS Walk, April 5 in Starkville.

WP detectives seeking tips in new burglaries

West Point Police Department investigators don’t catch a break. Investigators are following up leads on several burglary cases dating back to Feb. 24.
At about 9:30 a.m. Feb. 24, WPPD officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Grove Street in reference to a possible auto burglary.
The owner of the vehicle, according to West Point Chief of Investigations Albert Lee, reported her wallet had been stolen.

Yokohama site burglarized

At some point between 6 p.m. Thursday and 5 a.m. Friday, according to a press release provided by the Clay County Sheriff's Department, unknown suspect(s) made their way to the Yokohama Tire Manufacturing Plant site on the east side of Clay County and allegedly made off with construction materials.

BREAKING NEWS: CCSD investigates theft at Yokohama construction site

The Clay County Sheriff's Department responded to a reported burglary Friday at the new Yokohama Tire Manufacturing construction site on Barton Ferry Road in east Clay County.
According to a CCSD statement to the media, between 6 p.m. Thursday and 5 a.m. Friday, unknown suspects allegedly broke the lock of an 18-wheeler trailer on site being used for storage. The suspects allegedly stole about 30 large, metal teeth for a track hoe bucket and a torpedo kerosene heater in addition to several air powered tools and miscellaneous equipment.
