When the schoolhouse is just two or three blocks down from an adolescent’s house, it sort of makes sense for a parent to allow that child to walk or bike to school. However, parents want nothing more than for their child, who commutes independently, to make it to school safely as possible.

Milton Sundbeck, owner of Southern Ionics is honored with his second Patriot Award at the corporation’s main office on Tuesday. The Mississippi Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense operational committee bestowed the award in recognition of Sundbeck’s “extraordinary support” of Ron Howell, who has been deployed twice as an employee of Southern Ionics. The reckless disregard lawsuit filed in 2011 against the city of West Point by Clay County resident Natalie Stafford continues to make its way through federal court this week, but may be dismissed under defense claims brought forth by the city.
