GTRA operational despite substantial leak

April 8, 2014

LOWNDES COUNTY — The Golden Triangle Regional Airport had its share of plumbing issues Sunday, as a pipe disconnected amidst thunderstorms and left the terminal soaking wet.
According to Robin McCormick, West Point-Clay County representative on the GTRA Board of Directors, about 8:15 p.m. a drain pipe connected to the roof drain in the terminal “broke free,” causing rain from the roof to dump into the terminal. McCormick said the issue stemmed from a loose clamp that held the pipe in place to the drain.

The Clay County Board of Supervisors voted to suspend the next four night meetings at its meeting on Tuesday. The subject of night meetings was not on the agenda.
The board had previously voted to hold five night meetings during the year for residents who are unable to attend the morning meetings.
Board President Floyd McKee first said the board took no action but later said he abstained from voting.
“The vote was after the executive session had ended and any other actions were supposed to be held until Thursday’s meeting,” McKee said.
