Wreck clogs Sunday traffic on Highway 45

A Sunday evening collision kept traffic slow-going for more than an hour along the southbound lanes of Highway 45 near West Point.
About 7:30 p.m., Mississippi Highway Patrol officers were dispatched to the area in response to a two-vehicle collision. According to Sgt. Criss Turnipseed, MHP public information officer, Roy Lee Robinson, 54, of West Point, was driving north on Hwy. 45 hauling a hay trailer in an older model, green Jeep Cherokee when he pulled through a turnaround location to head south in into the path of Elizabeth Pettit, 19, of Memphis, Tenn.

Police eye weekend incidents

The final weekend of spring break welcomed several of West Point’s sour apples. West Point Police Department investigators are working to establish solid leads on several burglary cases, as well as an incident involving eggs and mischievous night prowlers.
At about 9 a.m. March 14, West Point police officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Chickasaw Drive in reference to possible malicious mischief.

Third annual police ball set for Saturday

Things are rolling along for the third annual Police Ball, set to begin at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Civic in West Point.
Linda Mitchell , WPPD communications officer and event coordinator, said of the 300 tickets originally available for the event, just 50 remain to be sold.
“It’s going really good,” Mitchell said. “We couldn’t do this without the community. Everyone has been really supportive. ... We just want everyone to come out and have a good time, and fellowship.”
