Town Creek shooting suspect surrenders to law enforcement

West Point Police Department investigators have been rummaging through evidence and leads to make a speedy arrest in the Jan. 22 Town Creek Apartments shooting, which left an individual with a gunshot wound to the neck. But the shooter made investigators' jobs easier by turning himself in at about 10:30 a.m. Friday.
According to a press release issued by the WPPD, the shooter, West Point resident Deylon Antonio Harris, 17, was accompanied by family members Friday as he made his way into the department headquarters.

Kelly pushes forward following service in World War II

Although it was nearly 70 years following the closure of World War II, Howard Miskelly was invited to the Mississippi Capitol to receive not only a Bronze Star for his involvement in the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns, but also a commemorative US flag shielded by a wooden and glass shell.

School system outlines safety procedures

Two West Point High School students caught with "deadly weapons" on school property are awaiting a hearing in youth court to determine their fate. The hearing date is expected to be set Monday.

More than just a meal, the 88th annual West Point-Clay County Growth Alliance banquet was a celebration of community and coming home.
Residents gathered Thursday evening in the Community Counseling (Mary Holmes campus) gymnasium to honor those who have been crucial to the growth and development of West Point, as well as welcome some special guests — including keynote speaker Walt Grayson, host of the PBS series "Mississippi Roads."
