A Steinway & Sons piano that belonged to legendary pianist Vladimir Horowitz has been touring the country, and on Tuesday evening, the piano was featured in West Point for a reception hosted by the Mississippi State University College of Education and Department of Music.

Five days after the West Point Municipal Election Commission certified votes in all races, Ward 5 Selectman Jasper Pittman made a request for the city to hire an outside law firm to review the 2013 Primary Election in West Point.

No opposition was heard Tuesday from the public regarding West Point’s five separate budgets, which were adopted for the 2013-2014 fiscal year.

Jimmy Clark and Charles Collins will go head-to-head in a runoff for the city’s Ward 3 post on May 21.
The city has announced that absentee voting for that election begins today.
City Hall will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., regular business hours, from today until Friday, May 17.
City Hall will also be open on Saturday, May 18 at 8 a.m. until noon. That is final day for absentee voting.
Clark, Collins and Ken Poole squared off last Tuesday for Ward 3, and neither Clark nor Collins received 50 percent plus one vote.
Polls will open on May 21 at 7 a.m.

Not one, not two, but multiple residents in the area of Clark Circle reported hearing gunshots late Thursday night, and although no one was injured police are in search of individuals believed to be connected to the incident.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department was granted authorization Thursday to enter into two agreements – one with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and one with an area grant writer.
