Community bids farewell to local civil rights legend

West Point wsa forced to say goodbye to one its most prominent citizens, John Jackson.

Jackson, 90, died Tuesday at Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko. Services were held Friday at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in West Point.

Local man arrested on sexual battery

August 19, 2013

A West Point man suspected of three counts of sexual battery was released from jail Friday after posting $75,000 bond, according to Starkville police.

A police department press release said Starkville officers arrested 27-year-old Lamarcus Antonio Brown, whose last known address is 865 Hawkins Trail, Lot G, in West Point, and booked him in Clay County jail. Starkville Municipal Judge Rodney Faver set Brown’s bond.

Vandenbranden makes ‘Digital Impact’ on West Point

People constantly complain about having to travel out of town to buy things. If you need a new computer, laptop, router, an upgrade, or anything computer related, residents can find it at Digital Impact’s new location at 301 E. Main St.

“The new location is great, it is so pleasant for our customers. The building is the perfect size,” said Jennifer Harper, an employee at Digital Impact. “I love that it’s easy to see from the intersection of Main St. and Commerce.”
