Parker tackles racism, stereotyping in ‘The Matchstick Cross’ at LWB

The December meeting for Luncheon With Books at the Bryan Public Library brought author Laurie Parker, well – known for her beautiful children’s books, “Everywhere in Mississippi,” “A is for Angels” and 10 others, to share her first novel “The Matchstick Cross.”
Friends of the Library president, Lucille Armstrong welcomed everyone to Luncheon With Books.

‘Grinch’ set for weekend in West Point

The Grinch is slinking down from his mountainside cave for a special appearance in West Point.
Beginning at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights in the Community Counseling gymnasium, students of the Mississippi Academy of Performing Arts will celebrate the season with their rendition of Dr. Seuss’ classic, “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.”

City takes on McClure remodel

It’s been in the making for years on end, but the head of a glistening new McClure building is beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Future home of the Howlin’ Wolf Blues Museum and the Louise Campbell Center for the Arts, the McClure building has been the focus of a collective effort for a massive renovation project. The West Point Board of Selectmen executed affirmative action to push forward with the project at its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday.
