Colbert trekking Mississippi River from Minnesota

It won’t be long before the break ends for 62-year-old and former International Business Machines (IBM) employee John Colbert. Once it does, the occasionally jagged and confused waves of the Mississippi River will welcome his — and his seasoned kayak’s — return.
A Starkville native, transcontinental voyager and Mississippi State University graduate, Colbert hails in the realm of science and engineering. Proof positive that his 31 years spent designing new components for mainframe computers and supercomputers was no inadvertence.

County awarded grant for nonprofits

Clay County has been awarded funds made available through the Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program.

Demolition begins on bus station

In three months time, expect to see a freshly constructed District 5 voting precinct in place of the decrepit building on Brame Avenue.
The aforementioned building that occupies the soon-to-be-renovated space has long since lost its aesthetic value since abandonment, but certainly once served a purpose. On one side rests the remnants of the old Trailway Bus Station; on the other side an old convenience store.
In its current condition, the building has, essentially, become little more than an eyesore to passers-by.
